      At least in England, wasn't it rebellion against
corporate/mainstream society with all its injustices in general-- some of
it sprang out of being really disenfranchised and treated like scum.
Sometimes I also feel in it a nose-thumbing at the weird ambivalence
that's prevalent toward "kids"-- child energy within and real kids to be
raised and educated and fed-- sloppy sentiment weirdly mixed with abuse
and hatred.  It's as if kids have no place that's quite real on their own
terms.  And the wild spaces they used to play in are shrinking or becoming
dangerous, and springing out in snarling music.
