Has Patti ever given a poetry workshop or compiled an anthology of poems she liked

I spent this wonderful weekend watching old TV appearances that my husband
had
on Patti Smith. I'm a new fan. I just got married in May and my husband
has
been introducing me to her writing and whatever he has out in California of
her. Most of his stuff is still back East.

I am definitely floored by how she can take off into the stratisphere with
her
improvisations. It was sooooo cool--We even drove around San Francisco
looking for The History of Rock, Vol. 9. It has this totally GREAT INTENSE
clip of Patti Smith doing Gloria. It was very intense. George also brought
out a clip of her singing People have the Power with Fred Sonic Smith on the
Grammy's.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if that song could replace It's a Small World at
Disney? I know Disney is a materialistic place, but a lot of kids are first
introduced to magic through Disney.

Little kids should be brought up listening to this totally powerful song.
It
should be translated in a million languages. Little girls and boys should be
brought up singing Dancing Barefoot.

Anyway, I'm babbling.

I wondered if Patti Smith ever thought of giving poetry workshops--teach
other writers to be conscious like her in this world. I read all the "Best
American Poetry of..." anthologies...after a while, it gets tiring listening
to the same stories about people's childhoods and such or very well-done
contrived pieces with craft over matter. There are always a handful of very
soulful and charged poems in these books--the few poems are why I continue
buying the anthologies. (At fourteen dollars a pop...)

If the state of Rock and Roll is horrible, maybe there is still a lot of
hope
in the world of poetry since people don't really make money in poetry.

There are some great anthologies out there, but I thought it would be cool
if
Patti Smith were an editor of one of these one day. She could introduce
people to so much--so much that is different than what is out there right
now.
We just don't know where to start to get our hands on it.

I wish she would think about doing that someday. We don't get introduced
ENOUGH to all the powerful stuff out there.
