Just got back from the in-store appearance at Amoeba. Patti, Lenny, Jay Dee,
Tony and Andy Paley (who provided the equipment were there. The place was
packed, with everyone shepherded into the record aisles leading back form an
elevated stage. The store is really massive. They played a nice set:
Everybody Wants To Rule the World
Helpless
Redondo Beach
White Rabbit
In My Blakean Year
Perfect Day
Are You Experienced
Smells Like Teen Spirit
It was mostly acoustic, with Tony playing an electric bass. Everyone kept
switching instruments. Patti played clarinet during Are You Experienced. It
was relaxed and informal. Patti mentioned that she was feeling a little under
the weather. She did an intro to Blakean Year about driving across country to
do an in-store in San Francisco 30 years ago and told the rabbit story from
last night but then actually played White Rabbit. With the exception of
Everybody Wants To Rule the World, which they had to restart, she got the
lyrics right for all the songs. The versions were softer in nature than last
night due to the acoustic setting, but they sounded great. Teen Spirit was
especially good, I think to make up for the messy rendition at the Roxy.
After the set we were herded into a serpentine line to get out stuff signed. I
got my copy of Easter signed by Patti, Lenny and Jay Dee. Tony wasn't there
for the signing. I guess they were just doing the original band members only.
Patti also signed my copy of Seventh Heaven and Patti and Lenny signed the CD
booklet for the St. Marks Church disc. Patti asked me how I liked the new
album and whether I bought it. I think she was a little perturbed that I
didn't have it with me. I told her I liked it alot, but I liked it live
better. I wished them good luck on the European tour. In parting I told Patti
that I loved her and that was it. Quite the 24 hours here in the City of
Angels.
