On April 18 at the Haru Ballroom Patti opened with this song. She started by joking about it at some length - saying the British press is spreading this story, and snarking that yes, the record company held her pet goldfish hostage and threatened to overfeed it until she agreed to put the song on the record. But she was really clear that in fact she chose to do the song - "Because I fucking WANTED to!" Accompanied by an imitation of a Euro journalist asking why she's singing an 80s pop song.
So no, I really don't think she was forced or persuaded or anything.
This isn't the linked to a published source that you asked for, but it is from the horse's mouth (as it were).
