Re: song covers

Of course the Bobster's new lines are good, he's been throwing in stuff for
years, when he'd feel like it or when he'd forget the "official" lines.
That's one thing that's made him the best vocalist in my lifetime. The way he
can change the meaning of a whole song by changing just one stressed sylablle
or dipthong is amazing.

...anyway, those old blues songs, in the folkie tradition, just beg to be
changed by whoever's singing.

As Robert Hunter has said about "misheard lyrics", "Hey, the way anyone
hears my lyrics is every bit as valid as the words that I meant"

For more Mondegreens, a fun site is:

(I still say the lyrics to the "The Wheel" is "If the joker don't get you
then the blind man will") :)

  Subject: song covers

The mention of Privilege, and also Bob Dylan's new album, made me think of
song covers and Patti's rumored album. It was more than a year ago that
she
and the guys were said to be in the studio making a covers album.

Bob's new album isn't really that good IMHO, but I LOVE his cover of the
old
Muddy Waters blues song Rollin and Tumblin. Bob takes the chorus and the
melody from that song, but writes 100% new words in all the middle verses.
The result is incredibly great. That would be a great approach for Patti
to
  take on some old songs.

Anybody know recent info about the covers album?

  Mitch

  Never would I come up.
