I have only ever watched Patti in performance online ...and I have her CDs
for Trampin' and Horses ...but this poem captures the essence of this
uniquely charismatic , bohemian performer, just beautifully.
Patti is entirely an original... for me ...absolutely enjoy listening to
her unusual singing voice ...and she is now sixty years old and standing
up for what she believes is right , absolutely fearlessly ...what a woman
!
What red-blooded female would not identify with the lines Seena just
selected ...plus the NO FEAR sentiment that comes across so strongly in her
singing of the Declaration of Independence [ DOI } ...today is the
anniversary of 9/11 ...poignant memory for all of us ...I stayed glued to my
television that morning after a friend called me to to wake me to turn on
my TV .Incredulously , I watched all day as the footage was repeated over
and over again of the two flaming towers imploding and people fleeing in
panic , covered in dust and the descending debris. Two sadly significant
memories for this Canadian in relationship to the great USA . The other
memory dates from 1963 .
I wept that weekend away...I remember it as a weekend at this moment in time
.... but , I was running a floor polisher buffing hardwood floors in our
dining room when the radio announcer said that the president had been shot
. I continued , thinking "Oh they will fix him up with the best of
doctors available" but. , the solemn voice came at me over the whir of the
machine ....the deathknell in the next announcement ......"the president
WAS so many years old................!!!!!" Chills of disvelief ran doen
my spine . I left the floor polisher standuing in place , rushed to the
living room , and turned on the TV to see Walter Cronkite doing his
darndest to fight back tears as he solemnly conveyed the tragic news to
all of us .. My husband looked after all the kids that weekend... I was a
complete basketcase wreck as I watched the state funeral unfold with
Jackie in veiled grief with Caroline and Jon-Jon alongside ...the black
riderless horse prancing in the mourning parade behind the US flagged
casket in the oen for all to see . We had five teenage foster sons ,and a
one year old daughter, and I was newly aware that I was on the way to
having my first son ...many reasons to be completely , sentimentally ,
emotionally functioning in woman mode . I adored JFK ...still do not care
how many chicks tucked their slippers under his couch ...he was magical
with his quirky wit , his totally male aura as he squired his beautiful
wife through state functions. Yes! ...Camelot most certainly existed while
John and Jackie lived at the Whitehouse ! His TV press conferences just
allowed journalists to drill him and he always managed to reduce each
conference to laughter at least once ...so fast on the draw that he was
always one step ahead in anticipating the snares meant to trip him up in
the questions being fired at him in quick succession because those
sessions had a time limit on them ..Everybody knows precisely where they
were when they first heard the devastating news of 9/11 ...and , similarly,
on that fateful day in Novebmer 22, 1963 ,the day of the demise of a
wonderfully alive young man ,as flawed as any other human being, but oh
so very human ; the youngest and first RC leader of the USA ..... now
43 years ago ...like yesterday in my mind , because the memory of his
assassination was so painful at that time .
We feel for all those who lost loved ones five years ago, today . Ground
Zero should be preserved as a memorial to that day , in perpetuity . That
painful memory will never be forgotten for all of us who care about this
world . Will we ever find a way to live in peace ,globally?
