Patti Smith, RANA, Lee "Scratch" Perry and Fishbone Confirm Final CBGB
Appearances
2006-08-28 16:06:30
After hosting live music for over 30 years, CBGB will shut its doors
this fall. While the veteran New York rock club has not finalized its
exact schedule, a number of the club's most famous alumni have confirmed
final performances at the Bowery venue. Punk/poetry icon Patti Smith-one
of the first CBGB performers to attract national attention in the
1970s-will play the club's final show in early October, though an exact
date and on-sale information have not been announced. Later this fall,
CBGB will likely relocate to Las Vegas, an odd end for one of the live
music scene s most forward-thinking independent rooms. New York-based
promoters Rocks Off, who have promoted numerous shows at the club over
the past five years, will curate CBGB s final run. The Rocks Off staff
has helped close down a number of New York venues, including Wetlands in
2001 and Tribeca in 2005. Bands confirmed for CBGB's final stretch of
shows include the Angry Samoans (9/9), RANA (9/13), Pete Yorn (9/14),
the Dead Kennedys (9/21), Agent Orange (9/23), Lee "Scratch" Perry
(9/25) and Fishbone/Dub Trio (9/28). CBGB will also close out its
Downstairs Lounge with an over twelve-hour festival beginning at 2:30PM
September 30, featuring a number of underground artists.
