 boy did that cheer me up and surprise the hell out of me in the  seventies.  
wow.  all through college i had patti smith's picture up  on my wall like it 
was a shrine.

i was a member of ACT UP/DC for quite a few years (i did my graduate work  at 
the university of maryland, outside of washington, dc.).  i've been  arrested 
in many scenic postcard places (and not so scenic like the inside of  jesse 
helms' office).
