Just a reminder to those in the UK that there is a short feature on
Patti at Charleston Festival, on BBC Two TV tonight, 3 June 2006, at
8.20 pm (repeated later that night).

Maddie's review of the concert is below.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
"I'm Going to Take a Watermelon to My Gig Tonight"

It feels like quite a long time since last Thursday now, and I
really was going to write something when I got home from the gig,
and I sort of started, and then I didn't, and then I thought there
was no point because surely lots of other people have reviewed it by
now, and so I did things like Biology revision instead. But since
Biology is making me vaguely contemplate suicide, and Dad has
actually asked me to please write something on the phone from
Singapore, I decided I might as well.

By the way, I don't half go on. Don't start this if you're just
about to go out or something.

Things, in brief, that I learnt on Thursday night:

It will be some years before I understand anything Virginia Woolf
has ever written;
It is worth carrying a copy of Patti's books with you at all times;
Tony Shanahan is a dude;
My dad knows EVERYONE. (Sort of.)
Or, in slightly more detail:

I have not attended an event at the Charleston Festival before. I am
not particularly well read: I tried 'To The Lighthouse' once, spent
twenty minutes fighting my way through the first page, and gave up.
I was therefore slightly worried when I realised I had in fact
arrived at a literary festival, where there seemed to be a lot of
people milling around talking about things like 'Bloomsbury'
and 'heritage' and 'readings', an astounding number of elderly
ladies in floaty scarves, and a noticeable lack of the middle-aged
men with beards and tour t-shirts I have become used to finding
myself amongst.

I realise that there is going to be a higher proportion of reading
and poetry to songs than I am used to, and begin to panic a little.
And when we are seated, and Patti comes out, there's a little bit of
whooping, but mainly polite clapping. I am in unknown territory.

There is, as I suspected, a good deal of reading. Patti reads from
Virginia Woolf between songs and her own poems extracts from 'A
Room Of One's Own', 'The Moment', and thoughts on art, her mother,
and the story of Louisa Waterford. I manage, perhaps because it is
the beginning of the evening, to absorb some of the first reading
Woolf's earliest memories of her mother and journeys to and from St
Ives; I remember the description of the black dress with the
coloured flowers but, as I feared, do not absorb very much else.
Most of Patti's own poems, I'm afraid, are also fated to calmly pass
me by as I wonder if there are people sitting here who actually know
exactly what she's saying, and how they are doing it.

However, I do stop worrying about it all after a while, and just
listen. Although I didn't think of it at the time, my mum pointed
out afterwards that we'd read in Stephen Fry's book on poetry that
it is perfectly acceptable to enjoy this kind of thing without
searching for another meaning, if that makes any sense. There is no
requirement to understand all the levels and the depth in poetry, or
indeed just very confusing prose you should be able to just read
it, or listen to it, as it is.

This is a difficult concept for me to put down in writing, and I
hope somebody knows what I mean. But the upshot was that I spent
quite a while sitting there, enjoying the fact that the dusk was
closing in and the lamplight was dancing on the sides of the tent,
and letting passage after passage on the sound of the sea and the
death of loved ones and the point of writing float pleasantly over
my head. It is enough to listen to the beat and the rhythm of the
poetry, and the intonation and expression in Patti's voice, as she
talks her way through photocopied collections of essays it will take
me years to understand. But that's fine.

I feel slightly better about my literary ignorance in the face of
Patti's surprisingly professional air of not really knowing what
she's supposed to be doing. She explains, when she arrives on stage,
that she has a pile of cut-and-pasted notes and extracts that she's
going to be reading, and that it's likely that she will get a bit
lost in them and forget what she's doing next. Which is exactly what
happens: there are short pauses between each item while she murmurs
quietly and searches for a particular passage, and she announces at
one point that she's forgotten her copy of her own book.

"Does anyone have a copy of 'Early Work'? Well, sometimes people
do."

There is laughter as somebody on the other side of the tent from me
provides her with a copy; Dad whispers to me, "Actually, this does
happen quite a lot."

Patti also has to ask for audience assistance regarding both the
pronunciation of 'anemone' and the title of 'Moments of Being'
(it's 'Moments of Being', for the record). It is a tribute to her
experience and obvious feeling of being at home on stage that she
remains completely unflustered, and indeed seems to revel in her own
disorganisation.

It seems that no Patti concert, literary festival-based included, is
complete without a slightly rambling account of the meal she has had
before the gig, or the town she has just visited, or the bizarre
people she met in a local shop. This time, she returns after the
interval wearing odd socks and explains that, caught up in the
moment of a beautiful scene of cows in the mist, she attempted to
climb onto some sort of wooden box or trough to take a photograph,
unaware that it was hollow and filled with water. She briefly extols
the virtues of Charleston's gift shop, which have apparently
provided her with some dry socks in her hour of need. (We later
discover that she also had to borrow a copy of another of her books
from there before the gig started.)

This is also the first time I have seen Patti perform an acoustic
set. Accompanied by Tony Shanahan, she sang some of her I'm not
quite sure which word to use here, perhaps 'mellow'? Labelling
anything that Patti has ever done as 'mellow', though, is probably a
mistake, so maybe 'quieter' or 'slightly less likely to invoke
revolution'. Some of her 'quieter' songs, then; suffice to say
less 'Gloria', more 'Wing'.

But I digress (really, I do, all the time). In between the readings
and the poetry, they perform 'Mother Rose', 'Grateful', 'Beneath The
Southern Cross, 'My Blakean Year', 'Wing', 'China Bird', 'Peaceable
Kingdom', 'Pissing In A River', and return with 'Dancing Barefoot'
as an encore.

As well as Virginia Woolf, Bloomsbury, literature, engineering,
geography and the world in general, I turned up on Thursday knowing
very little about Tony Shanahan. I believe my main impression of him
from the past few gigs was that I liked the floppy hair and that he
smiled a lot; I'd always ended up on the other side of the stage,
couldn't really see him, and didn't know exactly what he was
playing. I may have left the gig still baffled by everything else
mentioned above, but firmly convinced that Tony Shanahan is very
much a dude.

I am impressed, first and foremost, by his musicianship: I am always
fascinated when I sit close enough to a performer to actually be
able to see how and what they are playing, and now and again I
realised I had stopped listening to the song and started watching
his fingers. He is, unsurprisingly, a very good guitarist, and
managed to work the bass line into the chords he was playing, which
I liked. He sings beautifully (and very high) I've always liked
that bit in the middle of 'Southern Cross' and I also like the
fact that he really looks as though he is enjoying himself on
stage. 'Pissing In A River' is almost like being back among the
bearded, t-shirted fans, with Patti and Tony both rocking their
hearts out on stage, to the extent that he manages to break one of
his guitar strings. Patti says later that in ten years of playing
with him, this is the first time she's seen him break an acoustic
string, and takes it as a sign of good luck.

He also pulls some great faces. And, like I said, good hair.

Imagine, if you will, that I have no interest in Patti Smith, or
indeed any music that has not been churned out in the past couple of
years. Perhaps I would chill out to the dulcet tones of LL Cool J,
or bust a move to the harsh and tasty beats of Snoop Dogg. Or
something along those lines. I think this is a roundabout way of
saying that were this, heaven forbid, the case, I would probably
still accompany my dad to as many of Patti's gigs as possible,
simply to marvel at the fact he KNOWS EVERYONE.

This is not strictly true. He certainly didn't know most of the old
ladies on Thursday, at least. But I like the fact that the Patti
Smith community, if there is one, seems to be so closely
intertwined, and that every few minutes while we are queuing Dad has
to pop off to say hello to someone else he knows who has arrived. In
the tent I am introduced to Gordon and Richard again and for the
first time, Mike. We are then accosted during the interval by Colin,
who my dad met in London after selling a ticket to, and Kevin, one
of the most enthusiastic and friendly people I think I have ever
met. I reveal my lack of knowledge of the Scilly Isles to him whilst
Mum and Colin bond over what I gather to be something to do with
country houses.

Dad and I have to excuse ourselves for a moment to get the chocolate
from the car that we set out for, to which Kevin replies jovially
that he'll just get his watermelon.

This only sinks in about halfway to the car.

"What was that? Do they sell melons here?"

Dad considers. "I'm not sure. I think he was joking."

But then we return, and Kevin has actually brought a melon with him,
and a knife, and everything, and I decide that it's the most
wonderful thing that anyone could have brought along. Maybe this is
because I haven't slept much during the past week, but still. I'm
making the point of taking one along next time I see Patti, and
maybe he will bring another, and much melon-based joy will be had.

So there we go. A wonderful evening, a wonderful concert, and a
wonderful memory, although it's all pretty much a big conglomerate
of tents and poetry and guitars in my head, as opposed to actual
coherent recollections. But that's good enough.

I shall try to focus less on foodstuffs next time.

SMITH: 'I'M NO MUSICIAN'

Movie & Entertainment News provided by World Entertainment News

2006-06-06 14:03:51

http://www.pr-inside.com/smith-im-no-musician-r7231.htm

Legendary punk rocker PATTI SMITH refuses to be labelled a musician,
insisting her songs are a political act rather than a craft.
The BECAUSE THE NIGHT singer initially dreamed of a career in the
opera but believed her voice was too "bronchial" for soprano
performances. She has since settled as an artist and poet, and
dismisses her pioneering records, including 1975's hugely acclaimed
album HORSES, as a side-project. Smith says, "I had no interest in
being a musician. I'm not a musician now and I can't even say I'm a
real singer. "I've never had training and I haven't devoted myself to
developing a craft. "I've always looked at my participation in rock
'n' roll as more of a political one, something that I did to incite or
excite or inspire people."

somewhere?)

I think this has been lifted from the interview with Patti in The
Independent today (6 June 2006, extra section, p.15). The full
interview is not yet available online, but might be later in the week.

Kind regards

many Patti recordings have been shared on www.dimeadozen.org. thank
you to those who have shared them with folks here who aren't on Dime.

some recordings I would have shared on Dime can't be, and I'd like to
offer to send a copy of them to one volunteer willing to start weeds or
vines of them on both the babel-list and eternalcafe mailing lists (if
no one volunteers for the whole thing, I'll post again asking for
volunteers for the parts).

one is the earliest Patti I have, 12/25/71; it's fascinating, though
the sound quality is only fair. I can't share it on Dime because
spectral analysis shows that it is lossy.

then there are compilations; sharing them on Dime would require
examining each track for lossiness separately, and removing the lossy
tracks, so I've avoided sharing them on Dime:

my favorite is the superb 3-disc compilation "Patti Wrecks the Polo
Grounds: One fan's dream concert"; details at
http://phtp59.tripod.com/polofront.htm

another is "Roots"; details at
http://www.postmodern.com/%7Efi/pattipics/htm/roots.htm ; this one has
some overlap with Patti's 5/4/78 on Dime at
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=97800

another is "Rarities 1974-1978"; details at http://www.postmodern.com/%7Efi/pattipics/htm/rarities.htm

I'd really like copies of the '71 and Polo Grounds shows.

I've already got the Roots and Rarities comps, so if anyone wants copies of
these send me your mailing address off list and I can get them out to you
fairly quickly.

I'd be willing to do 3 copies of any these and will send them anywhere in
the world.

I was feeling kind of down today and thought I'd check out the website, to
see if there's anything new...
Lt. Ehren Watada has refused to fight in an immoral, illegal war. It is
interesting that in German, "Ehren" means honours, or as a verb, to honour.
Somehow this has brightened up my day.

Peaceful greetings,
Alice

>From A Praire Home Companion Pretty Good Joke Book:

How many internet mail list subscribers does it take to change a lightbulb?

155. One to change the lightbulb and to post to the mail list that the
lightbulb has been changed, 11 to share similar experiences of changing
lightbuls, 109 to post that this list is not about lightbulbs, 27 to post
URLs where one can see examples of different lightbulbs, three to post about
links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this list, and four to
suggest that posters read the lightbulb FAQ.

Sheila Callaghan's play _Dead city_

"produced by New Georges and running
through June 30 at 3LD Art & Technology
Center at 80 Greenwich Street, in Lower
Manhattan, roughly follows the outline of
    James Joyce's 1922 chestnut 'Ulysses.'

"New York stands in for Dublin; Samantha
    Blossom, a middle-aged freelance consultant,
stands in for Leopold Bloom; Jewel Jupiter,
    a self-destructive  poet, for Stephen Dedalus;
and the singer Patti Smith, as the object of
    Jupiter's absorption, for Shakespeare."

So I was driving to dinner tonight and was listening to 89.3 The Current (www.minnesotapublicradio.org) and Mary Lucia (dj) was doing a promo for the station saying something like "89.3 The Current. We play great music like Patti Smith" and then played a snippet of a live version of Gloria.

Just thought I'd share...

Front Women - Berklee women make themselves known at ROCKRGRL.

By Margot Edwards
Berklee.edu Correspondent
December 22, 2005

http://www.berklee.edu/news/2005/12/rockrgrl.html

For three days November, Seattle was the place to be for female
musicians and members of the music industry. Women came out in droves
to perform, network, and strategize about methods of self-empowerment
at the ROCKRGRL Music Conference. The conference, which offered panels
and workshops during the day and artist showcases at night, was the
largest meeting of female musicians in the world. Berklee faculty,
alumni, and staff made a strong showing as showcase performers,
exhibitors at the trade show, speakers on panels, and conference
volunteers.

"Berklee is serious and curious about how to attract more women
students and faculty musicians to the college, so any and all of these
women in music organizations are important places to make our presence
known," said Lauren Passarelli, associate professor of guitar, who
performed at the event. "We also need to let prospective women
students know that we have many talented women faculty to study with."

The Women of Valor Award dinner honoring legendary artist Patti Smith
was the kickoff event. Smith was brief but appreciative and gracious
in accepting the award. She recalled initially receiving ROCKRGRL's
invitation through her lawyer, who assumed she wouldn't want to
attend. After thinking about the invitation for a bit, Smith decided
to accept.

"If people out there say that I've inspired them and they think I'm
deserving of this award, then I want to thank them to their faces,"
said Smith. Afterwards, Smith and Lenny Kaye, her guitarist of almost
35 years, performed a short but blistering acoustic set.&

The next morning, Carla DeSantis, founder of ROCKRGRL magazine and
producer of the conference, welcomed everyone and explained the
purpose of the event.

"Why are we here [at another music conference]? In the rock arena,
we're having a problem getting airplay. It's important to have a forum
where we can talk about the problems and create solutions," said
DeSantis. "I want to see more women on the playlists . . . My mantra
for the weekend, taken from the Patti Smith song, is 'People Have the
Power.' . . . We've got to increase the odds, and that's what we're
doing here."

Smith delivered the first keynote address. She offered powerful words
of wisdom for the musicians in the audience.

"Artists and musicians have a responsibility to get the necessary
funding for their work," Smith said. "The artist has a specific
calling that the people need, and that gift belongs not to the artist
but to the people, so if you feel that calling, you must be diligent .
. . and produce work that inspires and leads the people."

Powerhouse vocalist Johnette Napolitano, of Concrete Blonde, gave the
keynote speech on Saturday morning, advising, "If you want to make a
living at this, you've got to live smart." She emphasized the
importance of ProTools to self-sufficiency as an artist, explaining
that she has her own rig so she can record at home.

[BTW, I have the transcript of Johnette's speech (tragically sans the
Q&A). I'll gladly send it to you if you email me privately]

The trade show included a number of organizations and companies of
interest to women, including MusiCares, Daisy Rock, Oasis CD
Manufacturing, the National Organization for Women, IndieGrrl, and
Rock N' Road Tripper. Jessica Yoakum, from the Admissions Office,
worked the Berklee booth and found people very interested in learning
more about the college.

"I was surprised and delighted to find a broad range of women who
seemed actively interested in pursuing Berklee," said Yoakum. "Women
and several men as young as 15 and as old as mid-50s approached the
table to find out why Berklee was in attendance and what we could do
for them." One conference participant commented that there were far
fewer exhibitors this year than at the previous ROCKRGRL in 2000, but
this appeared to be a boon to attendees and exhibitors alike, as
people were able to spend more time at each booth.

While panels and workshops given by women dominated the conference,
including the highly anticipated Shop Talk: A Conversation with Bonnie
Raitt (H'92) and Ann Wilson, men were by no means excluded. Two
Berklee alums shared their experience and wisdom with the attendees.
Derek Sivers '90, founder of CDBaby.com, the web's largest independent
music distribution service, gave a workshop titled Calling Attention
To Your Music. He emphasized the importance of making friends, not
necessarily contacts.

"Don't be a mosquito. Learn to interact and be with people, rather
than see what you can get from them," Sivers said. "Everything great
that ever happens to you in your career always starts with someone you
know."

Panos Panay '94, founder of SonicBids.com, was on the panel Podcasts,
EPKs and Blogs: New Internet Frontiers. Sonicbids hosts electronic
press kits (EPKs) for artists, connecting bands with booking agents
and festival producers. The company has 4,000 partners, including
ROCKRGRL and the Bumbershoot festival, that accept EPK submissions
through the site.

"What we're doing is teaching the music industry to speak a common
language . . . This is the best time in the world to be an independent
artist," Panay said, referring to the abundance of tools available to
musicians today. He also believes that the emergence of podcasts is
positive for the industry. "It is really democratizing things. It's up
to me to edit the content. I now have the choice to decide what I want
to hear."

The action continued long after each day's panels and trade show
hours. With over 200 performersincluding Napolitano, Amy Rigby, and
Kathy Valentine of the Go Go'son Friday and Saturday night, the
showcases presented an array of female musicians from the vibrant
Seattle music scene and artists from all over the United States and
the world. Several Berklee alums were featured, including Liz Stahler
'05, Kelly Buchanan, and Kyler England '99. Singer/songwriter Stahler
performed an impressive set on acoustic guitar at the Liquid Lounge,
located inside the Experience Music Project museum. The Boston-based
artist played several songs from her debut EP Turn the Lights Down,
including "3,000 Miles," and "Bible Belt." She plans to release her
follow-up album soon and do more touring.

Across town, Passarelli performed at cozy Cafi Vita in the Capital
Hill neighborhood, which was conveniently packed with ROCKRGRL venues.
Passarelli played solo electric guitar and regaled the audience with
her impeccable Liverpudlian accent, honed for her part as George
Harrison in the Beatles tribute band All Together Now. Her set
included several songs from the album Shadow Language, by Two Tru
(Passarelli's collaboration with Cindy Brown) including, "Serving the
Groove," "Tomorrow's Touch," and "Hold Onto Me," and songs from her
latest album of atmospheric instrumentals, Back to the Bone, including
"All Day Sun."

Boston-based singer/songwriter Pamela Martinez '04 heard about
ROCKRGRL too late to apply for a showcase, but felt it was an
important event and quickly hopped on a plane to be involved as a
conference volunteer. "I had to go to find out what women had to say
about being professional musicians and music businesswomen," Martinez
said. Being a performing artist in the Boston music scene, she has
become more interested in all stages of writing, engineering, and
promoting music. "The ROCKRGRL Music Conference changed my perspective
on women's roles in music business. The panels were amazing! The
choice of discussions I think had a lot to do with it, being a
woman-focused conference, [addressing the issues of] community
building and how do girls learn . . . it definitely created
opportunities for me to form lasting relationships within the music
community."

Said Yoakum, "Having a presence at the conference was an opportunity
to get people thinking of Berklee when they think of rock and
contemporary music. Even if they do not plan on attending, they might
send their children, siblings, or nieces. It's also good for Berklee
to show its support of such industry events promoting and honoring
women in music." - Margot Edwards is a publicist in Berklee's office
of public information.

Many thanks to the person originally posted the notice of the reading at Beyond Baroque in Venice, California! I do not live in LA, do not read the LA papers so I wouldn't have known otherwise!

It was a fairly calm event, considering the small venue, with very few of the usual crazies and beggars that attend the Los Angeles Patti events. There were only about 80 seats in that small space, and nearly 30 of those were reserved for guests of the band and the Facility. The Baroque staff managed to cram in 110 people by allowing standing in the lobby and on-the-floor seating, but a lot of people did not get in. The cost was $15.

I arrived many hours early, to the surprise of the Baroque staff who had not had much experience with hosting such a celebrity since they hosted a reading by actor Viggo Mortenson, they told me (Smile).

Also early were a group of fabulous jet-setting transcontinental Patti fans who kept me entertained for the long wait and threatened to kick the butts of line breakers. Good line mates are an undeniably important part of the expenience!

Also present and intoroduced were Jesse, Patti's daughter and her boyfriend.

She apologised for being sleepy (supported by the wrinkled pajama shirt she was wearing under her regular black blazer?). She was wearing difficult sandals and socks, so we didn't expect any Dancing Barefoot shoe antics....
She made frequent mistakes on the guitar, sheepishly apologised to us and to Lenny, eschewed applause, but it was all good.
She chatted and interacted with the audience very informally. At one point whe sang about half of an old crooner tune with an audience member feeding her lyrics to sing. Very funny. She spent a good 10 minutes on stories about her mom, Bev, and help up pictures of her mom and other family members from the new "Complete" volume on sale at the venue.

It was an acoustic set with both Patti and Lenny on guitar:
  .Southern Cross
  .Grateful
..Reading by Lenny from his book "You Call it Madness"
..Reading by Patti of a poem
  .Wing
  .So Lonesome I Could Die
..Reading by Patti of lyrics to "Pissing in a River" (Great!)
  .My Blakean Year
       ..Reading by Lenny, followed by
a solo guitar piece (a song by the "You Call is Madness" "crooner")
..Reading by Patti of The Writer's Song from "Auguries of Innocence"
  .Ghandi (also great!)
  .People have the Power
       ..Book signing from 11:00 on....

The only sour note for me was the crazy woman in the Gung Ho tour shirt (khaki green shirt, frizzy blonde hair). She arrived after the event had sold out, did not pay to get in to the venue, but slipped by the (very lax) security when the VIPs were going in before 9:30. She positioned herself front row center. Scary and obsessed. She clutched a Radio Ethiopia LP to her breast throughout the performance, staring at Patti with glazed eyes. Poor Patti. No wonder she doesn't come to LA very often!

Sitting at her feet not being squashed by moshers was a nice change. I haven't had that vantage point since I saw her at the Roxy in 1976. She spit twice, so you can say we've had our showers....

Thanks John for offering. I already have these shows on DVD.

I thought I would use this opportunity to request the Patti's FUJI show
from 2001. I think the show is from 2001. My main system is down right now,
so I can't check my files, but I think that is the right year. I've seen it
as an m2v file on eMule, but it isn't complete. Been stuck at 70% for months.

I do have other video to trade and I would be willing to weed to others if
someone could get me a decent copy.

Wow, that sounds pretty cool. I used to do a radio show back when I was in college in the early 1980's. It was free form radio and I had the Friday night 10pm-2am shift and we could play whatever we wanted to play. Ah those were the days. I used to play Patti a lot, along with The Ramones, Talking Heads, Billy Idol (before he took off), Cyndi Lauper, Dead Boys, Lords of the New Church, X, XTC, Zappa, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, B-52's, etc. Of course I think I just dated myself too with that play list. haha That time in my life includes some of my favorite memories. Thanks for the flashback.

Hi - I play Patti 's music every show (I do every second Monday
night) eg on
Monday 26 June on our community radio station 99.3FM in Hobart Tasmania,
Australia. The show is called "Know Your Product" and it is on from
8pm -
10pm Eastern Standard Time.

Might as well tell you although feel a bit shy about it - I formed a
band
called The Glorias and we were at first a Patti tribute type band and
did a
show last year - however we have had a succession of bass players for
one
reason or another and last time - with the latest bass player
Kaye.....we
all decided to still do a lot of Patti's covers - but we also do some
MC5
and A Jefferson Airplane one....our first gig is Saturday 1 July at
the Rock
Club Trout Bar in Norht Hobart Tasmania - anyone coming over lol.....??

Cheers Carol (Cas) Smith

ohhhh brudda........can ya spare.........a Dime...........

Through the diligence of coyote/skywalker, we have some very enticing
 Patti Smith history here.

Below is the description from the source. I am helping with
distribution, and so all content is as I received it, today, June
 26,2006.
 ------------------------------------

This DVD contains some Patti Smith recordings that for various reasons
 I'm not torrenting on dimeadozen.org

 Here's why:

Patti 12/25/71 and filler: I can't share it on Dime because spectral
analysis shows that it is lossy. << This is the earliest known
recording of Patti Smith, melding her poetry with improvisational
 music.>>

Patti 3/24/01: I can't share it on Dime because spectral analysis
 shows that it is lossy.

"Roots": track one can't be shared on Dime because it was Patti's
 first official release (a now-rare 1974 single).

"Rarities": can't be shared on Dime because every track was officially
 released.

3-disc compilation "Patti Wrecks the Polo Grounds: One fan's dream
 concert" contains many lossy tracks.

Absolutely no selling! Please share freely. Please only convert to mp3
 for your own use.

I am going to attempt to serve everybody. Skeptics say not to, but I'm
hard headed. The different methods of doing this, vine, tree, or b&p,
will depend on what each of you want, and will depend on what kind of
disc player you have, and what programs you are familiar with. To
decode the compressed files, you will need FLAC front end... If you
have Win amp, there is a plug in that allows you to play the
 compressed files on your computer...

Now...the easiest way to send this, is just as I received it, on one
DVD disc. Postage is minimal, in the States, it would be .63. I can set
up vines, lists of addresses ( probably five on each one ), and get
 these going the fastest.

Some people may not have a DVD reader, but still may want the
compressed files, with the info files. I can burn the compressed files
onto 4 800MB discs, or 5 discs, if I include the miscellaneous
material...marley mpeg, calvin and hobbes complete, 4 patti Smith
mpegs, a poster file...Now, I will only do ALL of the miscellaneous, or
 none... you make that call.

Still other folks, only have the capacity, the patience, or the time,
to receive AUDIO discs. I have yet to decode any of these, to tell
anyone how many discs that is. But my guess is one disc for each,
except the 'Patti wrecks the polo grounds', which appears to be three.
That would be 7 audio discs, and 2 more discs for the misc. stuff.

 -------------------

 *DVD Vine*
 One DVD

 *CD compressed tree...with miscellaneous*
 Five 800MB CDR

 *CD compressed tree...WITHOUT miscellaneous*
 Four 800MB CDR

 *Audio tree or B&P*
Seven CDR (or add three more CDR for misc. stuff)

This is open to anyone, and the vines will no doubt happen first. If
anyone is willing to head up ( branch ) a tree, let me know if you can
receive it all on DVD. If so, I will get the disc to you well before
the trees are built. If you do go for a B&B, with the branch on your
tree, consider sending an extra disc, in case there is a flaw in
burning. It happens, and the spare is quicker than choosing what NOT to
 get.
I am very open on the best way to get this situated around the globe.
I would really like the initial disc to be DVD to keep postage from
becoming cruel. Then hopefully, the bigger packages can generate around
inside each country, keeping postage 'local'. but I realize...the best
laid plans of mice, and men....

Okay then...just let me know which selection interests you. Make sure
 that you include...

 A. what you want
 B. a valid e-mail address
 C. your snail mail info...WITH zip code

Yours till the trees come home...
 Mark in St. Louis

It's allowed to seed lossy shows on Dime when it's the only known
source available (unless they've changed their policy recently).
Unless anyone else can come forward with a better source. Just make
sure you mention it in the description and in the info file.

There's got to be lossless recording of such a "recent" show? Anyone?

Seed it elsewhere. Just post the links to the torrents here so someone
knows about it.

Is that a reason why you cannot seed it on Dime ? One should of course
follow the wishes of the taper that are inside the info file.

Unless you've be
