Triggers

I just browsed the Triggers list at Oceanstar.com/Patti again, just for a
couple of minutes, like I have always done.

This time I read yours, Fiona. Hearing the parking meters and being
drawn into an unknown dorm room. Wow.

I don't exactly remember my initiation but it was through the Houston
Pacifica station and my group of friends, one of whom bought me two tickets to
see her, about '76 or '77. I took my little sister, who was home from school
for some reason, and we got home at sunrise :) I lived alone but with cats
on the coast then, on a nice creek, and I floated and surfed and wrote for
over a week on the music and two epiphinies I had that night. How often does
one have more than one every ten or twenty years??? Plus meeting at the
after-party a woman, who I wanted to be with always, at least until her liver
gave out a bit later. I thank Patti for bringing us to meet at the party.

The only other musicians I've felt the same way about have been Dylan,
halfway through "Isis" in the Astrodome (and yes, I'd seen him before, with
The Band), and the first time I ever heard Eva Cassidy singing "Over the
Rainbow". She, k.d. lang and Buddy Holly are about the only singers whose
voices give me goose bumps. Patti does it with her words and force and
purity.
