Synopsis:
Patti Smith, world-renowned musician, poet, and punk icon, will read from
her new book of poetry, Auguries of Innocence, as well as perform some of her
own music with guitarist Lenny Kaye.
A pioneer on the New York Punk scene of the 1970s, Patti Smith rose to
international prominence with her 1975 album Horses, offering a feminist and
intellectual contribution to punk music and becoming one of rock and roll's most
influential female musicians. Smith received a Grammy for her song Glitter In
Their Eyes in 2000. Her latest album,
trampin', was released in 2004.
During the course of her career, Smith has published a number of books of
poetry, including Babel; (1978)Patti Smith Complete: Lyrics, Notes and
Reflections (1998); Early Work,(1995)collecting a number of the small poetry volumes
and broadsides she published in the early 1970s; and The Coral Sea, (1996) an
extended elegy to photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. In July 2005, she
received the highest honor awarded by the French Minister of Culture, joining the
likes of William Burroughs and Susan Sontag as a Commandeur of the Order of
Arts and Letters.
Tickets for this event have sold out. Should any seats become available,
