When K T Tunstall released her song "Suddenly I See" as a single
last year she explained that it was inspired by Patti Smith:
"This song was inspired by the picture of Patti Smith on the Horses
cover," says KT. "The black and white one with her in a man's suit
with the jacket over her shoulder. I realised that this image had
really stuck with me from seeing it years ago. I remember thinking,
'that's what I want to be when I grow up' (despite being in my
mid-20s at the time.) You know, when growing up becomes much more
about getting wise. I adore the sound of this song - it tickles my
hillbilly leanings. We used this instrument called a cajon, it's a
Spanish slapbox, which gives it that junkyard acoustic feel."
