late late show

patti and lenny played two songs at the late late show taping (blakean year, grateful). patti asked if they could do grateful again because she made a few mistakes, but the television crew told her the song was fine. i guess there was only so much time allocated to taping her portion of the show. it was odd how the taping went all in all.... patti and lenny did their two songs as soon as the audience had been seated. the intro to the song was actually taped about an hour later and obviously edited together.

after a hasty drive from the taping (thinking doors at the troubadour were opening at 7), i arrived at the nightclub.

the troubadour show, i thought, was musically the peak of the mini tour, though all 5 shows had their moments. lenny really seemed to be driven playing with flea, the two going off into directions that gave songs an exploratory feel. the difference in the backing musicians forced patti to change her cadence pushing songs wide open at times creating a sonic free for all. reinvention is good for the soul.
