talk about a garage band!

patti and lenny did NOT do an acoustic show at crocodile cafe last night. they started it that way, with 4-5 acoustic duets.

then "minus 5" joined them onstage: peter buck and the rest of REM -- everybody but michael.

THEY KICKED ASS. i don't have the setlist right now (will post it later if no one else has). one of the best shows i've seen in a while. jesse joined the band on keyboards for a couple of songs, including a fabulous cover of "like a rolling stone".

at the last minute it was announced that 100 rockrgrrl attendees would be admitted just by showing their badges. i don't know what the capacity of this venue is, but it sure seemed as if we had twice as many people there as it was built for. and everybody jumping up and down totally psyched.

there was also a nice review of patti's keynote address to the conference in today's seattle times. i saw patti & lenny at breakfast a little while ago, and gave her the section. i believe she will be very pleased with the respectful and clear way they covered her address.

patti has been extremely accessible during this conference -- available for signings and chats on the spur of the moment. after like 25 years of following her, i've had more conversations with her and lenny this weekend than i had in the whole previous time altogether. if she does another one of these events, do try to come! it's a whole different vibe than trying to say hello when she shows up at a venue before or after a gig.
