New Patti Smith broadside

EBay 6569899051 :

Paths that cross. [By Patti Smith. Illustrations by Path Soong]
Sherburne (New York), 2005

FIRST EDITION thus, designed by Jeff Gordon. First issue, ONE OF ONLY THIRTY
NUMBERED COPIES printed on thick Arches drawing-paper and SIGNED BY PATTI
SMITH as well as by the artist Path Soong (Korean-American, b. 1954) lower left,
as issued.

Smith herself owns the original paintings reproduced here, and apparently she
was quite pleased with this publication: It is, she writes, "very nice". Out
of print. The present example is numbered "19 / 30".

According to one leading critic, Soong's "commanding yet delicate"
abstractions can be seen as "ideographs that have turned away from their traditional
task, which is to convey bits of language, and are doing something typically
Western: taking the measure of the canvas." They can be "read", he says, "as light
glimmering through darkness." *
