As I was saying, I picked up a GA/floor ticket for U2's
Monday show in Philly at 3PM the day before on
Ticketmaster.com.
If getting one of these $54 tickets is the only way you're
going to get to go see Patti and Bono ROCK Madison Square
Garden on November 21 and 22, you might want to keep some
of the following in mind:
There are pre-show ticket drops on ticketmaster.com, and
pre-show ticket drops at the box offices. Box office drops
usually consist of held-back stuff not used or claimed by
press or friends of the band by a certain hour, and are
distinct from the pool offered for sale via TicketMaster,
as these "band holds" have been pulled from the general pool,
and are (usually) physically set aside in neat little piles
in some dark cave somewhere for distribution by the band's
personnel as they see fit.
In a city especially hot for U2 - like NYC, Boston or
Chicago - the box office pickin's can be pretty slim,
and the conditions grim.
In particular, I've heard some horror stories about the
day-of box office drops at Madison Square Garden and up in
Boston. Everything from 12-hour lineups to hordes of homeless
guys hired by scalpers, and physical threats made by scalpers
to anyone in line who narcs.
If I could pick one and only one avenue of ticket procurement
in the day(s) leading up to the November 21 and 22 shows,
featuring U2 and PATTI SMITH at Madison Square Garden, I'd
have to say I'd stick with the online offerings at TicketMaster.com
before trying my luck in the flesh. And I'd also opt for
"ticketfast" - whereby TicketMaster.com emails you images of
your tickets and you can print them yourself on any color
printer: No "Will Call" drama!!
If you want to buy from someone on eBay, I'd say it's an
okay method if you're used to shopping on eBay and are
familiar with what to look for as warning signs in
terms of things like seller feedback, auction volume,
other sales offered, payment options, etc.
