Good news: Lou
Reed is alive and well. A vicious rumor
circulated Monday (May 7) that the influential artist had died Sunday (May 6) of something we respectfully won't repeat even in rumor form here. The rumor was so widespread that it forced Reed's publicist, Annie Ohayon, to release the following statement: "Contrary to false reports that have been circulating today, musician Lou Reed is alive and well. Mr. Reed is currently in Amsterdam preparing for the opening of his latest project, POEtry, for which he collaborated with Robert Wilson." According to our sources, the rumor started in Chicago and then ended up on some newsgroups on the Web and circulated as an email from a publicist in the industry. POEtry, meanwhile, debuts in Amsterdam on Wednesday (May 9) and in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 27. It's a performance art project that is based on the poetry of Edgar Allen Poe and features music and lyrics by Reed and set design and lighting by Wilson. In conjunction with the famed Thalia Theater, POEtry originally debuted in Hamburg, Germany, last year. |
