I tend to agree here. There might be a few other things they have in common,
like first playing at CBGBs, both being good people and both having two arms
and two legs, but that's beside the point. I don't own any Spingsteen albums,
but going by his hits I see him as something like a Mid Atlantic John Cougar
Meloncamp... almost country western in nature. Bruce is a more sophisticated
song writer, but his music still brings up images of American flags, sweat,
whiskers, Levi jackets, lonely taverns at midnight, steel mills, endless
highways.... hair blowing in the wind with his little cutie hanging on for dear
life.

This music is a genera all it's own ( Not CW or RnR). I believe it's called
"Americana." I realize that Bruce is versatile and has touched on several
different styles, but the over all statement remains: This fellow is a stars
and stripes populist. It's like movie soundtrack music. There nothing wrong
with that. I'm just not into it.

So Bruce was on the cover of Time? Was he the savior of rock 'n roll? In the
seventies what really saved rock 'n roll is one four letter word: PUNK.
Maybe the Ramones or the Pistols should have received that honor.
Personally, I would have put Patti on the cover as the great redeemer.

 Just a few thoughts.

 Paul.
