I love the lyrics but find that the music has to draw me in first.
If I hear something that sounds cool, feels really good or stimulating,
I'll listen to it and get drawn in and then will really listen to the
lyrics. And if the lyrics are good they'll become really important.
But I've got to be drawn in, seduced if you wish, by the sound first.
And yes, in the 70s the Patti Smith Group and Talking Heads were the
two bands whose concerts I went to the most. About 5 shows by each group.
I was on the West Coast then and would see either band whenever they came
out there.
And I love your "facts are simple" quote from Talking Heads. Don't know
where they came up with that song, it's so far out in left field, but I
love it, it's one of their best. Remain In Light might be my second
favorite 70s album after Horses.
