Last Night's Dream

YLT and Hypnolovewheel

Knitting Factory, May 2, 1992.

Neslon:
Hypnolovewheel reminded us a little of the dBs, a little of Sonic Youth somewhere in there (drum stuff for me, chords fer my honey C), and a little of My Bloody Valentine. These guys are good from ten feet away, bassist was fun to watch, kinda rubbery face. Hearts seemed in the right place. Liked the joke at the end of their set about "In a moment... Ride the Tiger! with their tribute to Yo La Tengo!"

They opened with "Here comes a headache." Don't remember much else. They've got an album either out or coming out soon on Alias Records, might be worth picking up and checking out.

It sure was hot in there. After Hypnolovewheel we found a spot by the sound board where there's an air conditioner vent or something. One single spot in the whole place where it was kinda cool.

YLT was pretty danged good. Not transcendent the way you almost expect, but solid and professional, with a good choice of songs. Here's what we remember them doing.

Ira dedicated Griselda to his Mom, who mighta been there (there were some folks even older than me in the back).

Afterwards we had milk (don't remember the brand) and cookies (Pepperidge Farm) chez Chameleon.

Chameleon:
The milk was very cold and in good form.
The cookies were chocolaty and crumbly.

YLT was pretty good considering that I was debating the relative merits of passing out because of the heat.

It was cool how yer teeth would vibrate if you were sitting or standing in the right place by the soundboard.

Don't know who I thought HypnoLove Wheel sounded like, except that they sounded like a bunch o folks, and there was a definate Violent Femms riff going during one songs and ...

Whatever. Good show basically.

Neslon:
Nantucket, as I recollect. Chocolate chunk...

There's a groovin new YLT CDingle out, with two different versions of Upside-Down on it, version of Beach Boys' Farmer's Daughter, nuther toon and then a 25-minute song [yipes!] at the very end. A picture of Ira on the front with a cymballic umbrella, huh huh huh.
