We'll have one beer and then we'll go, cause I have to leave town tomorrow, but of course that NEVER HAPPENS, cause people show up, ya know and go, "hey, let's have a pitcher". Ok, so we have a pitcher, then we had three or four pitchers, and so this guy comes up and he knows these strippers and these strippers came up and sit down. Well, it was one stripper but her friend was really great too. So, we're sitting there all having beers then all of a sudden things got really out of control. ...Richard Buckner on his last night in Atlanta

from: Eric Daniel Barry <edb15@columbia.edu> The NYU show (5/2) was concluded with a cover of the Swell Maps Let's Build a Car. --eric
from: Purnell, Vernon <KPSNET1!KPSGPO!vpu@kpsgroup.attmail.com> We arrived at The Andy Warhol Museum (following a flight from Birmingham and an unplanned tour of the Three Rivers Stadium parking lot) just in time for YLT's opening number, a song unknown to me sung by James (the set list gave "Don't" as a probably-abbreviated title). This show might be about as close as one can find these days to an Exploding Plastic Inevitable experience: mirror ball, multiple film projections (including educational films, animated films [one perhaps by Georgia], and, inevitably, some Warhol movies, including, in some part, BLOW JOB, KISS, CHELSEA GIRLS ["Nico Crying" reel only], HAIRCUT (#1), and VINYL; wouldn't CAMP have been appropriate?), -- even a couple of dancers for the closing song (minus whips). And, of course, loud music: (Don't) Shaker Tom Courtenay Decora Flying Lesson Satellite Nowhere Near Damage Double Dare False Alarm Sudden Organ (Synth) Blue Line Swinger [Encores:] (Monkees song -- unsure of title.) Dreaming Can't Seem To Make You Mine ["Damage" is a new original; what was listed as "Synth" on the set list was an instrumental segue, of sorts.] Afterwards, we gave Ira a quart of Dreamland BBQ sauce as thanks for the free show. The next day, we ran into the band outside the museum, and a pleasant chat with Georgia ensued. We talked about their filming I SHOT ANDY WARHOL and their attempt to get Maureen Tucker to play with them at the NYC premiere party (she graciously declined as, like Lou Reed, she did not want to be associated with the movie). We proceeded to spend part of the afternoon leapfrogging YLT around the museum. After a screening of Warhol's film BIKE BOY, I asked Ira (who, aside from us, was the only person present from the beginning to the end of the movie) about the much-lusted-after compilation of rarities. He offered the gratifying news that the 2-DISC set was due for an August release! Unexpectedly, we capped-off our Pittsburgh trip with an incredible Bob Dylan concert -- a perfect conclusion to a tremendous, wigged-out weekend.
alt.music.independent from: Jacob D Wilson <jdwilson@mail2.sas.upenn.edu> New Yo La Tengo Mailing List All right. Due to the glaring absence of newsgroups for bands like Guided By Voices, Pavement, and Yo La Tengo, I am entering into the mailing list fray. If ANYONE is interested in joining Motel 6, a Yo La Tengo list, e-mail me with a message of "subscribe." I haven't decided how exactly to run this thing... I'm thinking digest form. Anyway, even if you know absolutely nothing about one of the best bands in music right now, you should still join and enlighten yourself. Thanks, Jake
from: Jacob D Wilson <jdwilson@sas.upenn.edu> Hi. Upon trying to start up my own Yo La Tengo mailing list, I was informed that there is an existing one that I was not aware of. I am extremely interested in subscribing and will refer all of those who respond to my post regarding the new list. Jake Wilson jdwilson@sas.upenn.edu
from: tubesox@pop.sirius.com (windy) Aquarius Records - New Arrivals YO LA TENGO "President YLT/New Wave Hot Dogs" (Matador) cd cheers to Matador/YLT for seeing the need and filling it, we can't even keep the expensive import of this cd in stock cos people want these early albums so much. now available at a domestic price: both albums plus a song from an early 7". highly recommended. from: Ric DubeI would like to get all of the Dump releases I can. I currently have only Superpowerless on CD, I Can Hear Music on CD, and the 10" Dump International Airport. I am aware of two 7"'s and a limited double CD I have never seen. Can anyone give some insight as to the entire Dump discography, and better yet, a source for the stuff I don't have? I need live tapes of Dump as well. Thanks for your time. alt.music.alternative from: Dave Renard <renard@azstarnet.com> I can't rave enough about YLT's live show. They played a "birthday" show for the radio station I work at (KCOU in Columbia, Mo) and their set went on for more than 2 hrs. We had a sorta country-stomp band the Mudbugs open up for them, and not only were they into it they had members of the Mudbugs join them on stage during their set to play a Gram Parsons cover! Add to all this several encores, the fact that Ira came up to me and my friend and talked to us for 20 minutes before the show, and the fact that they said at the show's conclusion "we've had a lot of radio stations put up banners at our shows, and it's nice once in a while to see one for a station like KCOU that actually plays our records." Damn great show, damn great band. dave r. renard@azstarnet.com
from: http://www.muohio.edu/~plattgj/ylt/ Ylt Page Updates: June 24, 1996 The upcoming Yo La Tengo release is, indeed, a collection of b-sides, outtakes, live songs, covers, and other rarities. The release date, according to Matador is July 23rd. It will be a double CD and LP entitled "Genius + Love = Yo La Tengo." I am also working out the kinks for the message board, which will operate like a b-board. I will announce on this page when all are up and running. June 18, 1996 Modified the Ride The Tiger discography entry to mention that "The Empty Pool" is a Yung Wu cover (thanks to Matthew Hargrove). Included new discography entry for Music from the Films of Hal Hartley. Also included new entries in the Solo Effort portion of the discography for Stinky Puffs and Portastatic. June 5, 1996 Added pictures and track listings for Alias with a Bullet, Yo La Tengo Mice 7", Lo-Fi, and Duplex Planet Illustrated to the Discography. Matador will be re-releasing "Ride The Tiger" and "President Yo La Tengo/ New Wave Hot Dogs" on June 18th on LP and CD. plattgj@muohio.edu
