    here's the latest... tim tim@vestek.com

from: Jeff Economy <economy@mcs.com> Hey Tim-- As for YLT music videos, I saw one for MOTEL 6 a couple weeks ago on 120 minutes. Not too impressive, just shots of the band lip-synching in front of a plain backdrop on a soundstage. Wish they'd let *me* make one for them... Anyway I'd offer to dub it for you but I only managed to catch the last half of it; if I get a complete version I'll let you know. Jeff

from: Andrew Johnston <andrewj@echonyc.com> My girlfriend has forwarded me a few of your YLT newsletters, and I've enjoyed them a lot. In your last one, you asked for information about "low circulation" YLT videos that may be absent from your videography. Here's some info: *Upside Down--a very nice video filmed in NYC's Central Park. It turned up once on MTV's 120 Minutes in the spring of '92 and got a good bit of play on the 'Underground Railroad' alternative video show on Manhattan Cable. 'UR' watchers voted it one of the 10 best alternative videos of '92 *Big Day Coming (noisy version)--press material I recieved from YLT's publicist prior to a band interview I did last october said a video had been made. I've never seen it. *From A Motel 6--directed by Hal Hartley, it turned up on 120 Minutes about a month ago [Are you sure this is hal's work. Ylt Gazzette mentions David Kleiler?] Keep up the good work with the newsletter. I'll email you any further info I turn up on YLT-related subjects...

from: Michael Pemberton <mrpember@gibbs.oit.unc.edu> 'Cast a shadow' was done at the request of a friend of mine, who said he had heard them do it on the radio at point. He's a big Beat Happening fan, if you can imagine that. 'Teenager in Love' was my request. I chatted with Ira for about 15 before the show, and asked him to play it. His eyes kinda bugged out, and then he got a big smile on his face. it seems the Cattle Club show was the first time they played that song, and they'd never really played it since (he said they guested in Cleveland with the person who guested with them on that song in Sacto, and they played the song there). So two years and 1500 miles later some guy comes up requesting it! Kinda threw him for a loop, until I told him I had a tape of that show. I knew from the smile on his face that the song was as good as played. We chatted about various bands, and I chatted with James about the pinball games to be found in town (go figure). Ah well. It really was a great show. Strange ending, though. At the end of the last song (The Stooges cover, I forget the name), Ira unplugged and slammed his guitar to the ground, and stomped off stage like he was real pissed. Georgia and James just looked at each other for a few seconds, quit playing and left too. Then the audience looked around at each other and left. No one knew quite what to make of it. Odd. Michael

EURO-ROCK DEPT. (from ylt gazzette) 18th DYE - a trio from Berlin with whom we toured through the wilds of Europe for a few weeks. They're young and personable, and apt to make th ehsift from gentle songcraft to absolute shrieking hell in the blink of an eye. They have a new EP called Crayon which is a follow up to their fine pop noise dubut Lp, Done. You can write to them and get the CDs but we recommend going off the menu and including a few more bucks so maybe they'll send you a cassette og them doing "Feels Like I'm In Love", "Fragile Stars" or "D", or maybe even a photo of their soundman, Micha. We miss them very much. (18th Dye, Ravenestr. 2, d-13347 Berlin) READING STREET - we played with them in Bordeaux, France. Eric plays guitar, his sister Peggy is the drummer, and their friend Laurent plays bass. It was their first show, and they were just amazing in a sorta Talking Heads '77 as interpretted by the Shaggs way. If Chienne .50 were to weird for you, man, this band is right up your alley. Write them immediately and get their excellent demo tape. (Reading St., 61 rue du Mirail, 33800 Bordeaux France) PARKINSON DC - This handsome quartet hail from Barcelona. Mention the Dream Team around them and they go nuts. Their songs came floating out of the PA like giant airborne whales. who knew you had to go all the way the Spain to find this fantastic Antietam/Hypno/MBV roar? They have a record or two out on Munster Records, but we heartily recommend booking yourself a weeklong vacation in lovely Barcelona around one of their gigs. (c/o La Gloria (Serapi) Solar, Perill 13, Barcelona 08012 Spain) DIRTY BALTHAZARS - we played with them in Brussels. A way punk quintet who tossed in vicious covers of "Time Wont Let Me" and a couple Count Bishop tunes. They played fifteen songs in about 20 minutes and we never caught up to them to get an address or anything. (General Delivery, Belgium) USURA - they broke up before we played with them in Madrid, but some of them stuck together and recruited a few friends to round out the lineup for the show. That night they treated us to pretty melancholyacoustic fog, with a few choice covers mixed in. Their CD, Hake Romana, presents the (pre-split) band in rock mode and it is available from Elefant Records, PO Box 331, 28230 Las Rozas, Madrid Spain.
