howdy, In a recent live tape Ira mentions a video for 'The Summer' that was shown one time on MTV. Has anyone seen this or any other *low* rotation yo la tengo vidoes? - Option #55 has an excellent article on ylt. But, by answering all of my ylt questions in one place, author Jason Fine has stolen a bit of the mystery (for me at least). Option's photos are usually very good, but don't expect that this time. Also good articles about Vic "I Got a Hurt as Big As Robert Mitchem" Chestnut and Micro-Radio. - Tape Offer #2. By now everyone who ordered YLT@Cattle Club should have their copy. That offer is offically closed. At this time i'd like to offer YLT@Slim's (9/20/93 50 min) at cost of course. Sound quality is very good but below that of the Cattle Club show. Cost will be about... 2.40 (cost of 60 min tape) .75 (us postage) .35 (mailer) ---- $3.50 i also accept trades. have a nice week, tim tim@vestek.com p.s. circulation 58

from: keb@u.washington.edu There's also a Dump 7" out on 18-Wheeler. It's available through the Pop Narcotic catalog. (Contact Bill Peregoy <peregoy@maelstrom.timeplex.com> for info on PopNarc.) I haven't gotten my copy of "Superpowerless" yet but it's available through the ever-ruling Ajax catalog. I believe the toll free order number (credit cards only) is 1-800-844-AJAX but I may be wrong about the exchange. Lena

from: howard@sharps.astro.wisc.edu (Greg Howard) hi tim - A few random tidbits for you, since I'm doing Work Avoidance... Ira's written a lot a lot of stuff. I think he writes for Spin a bunch, but I don't read it much; I know he reviewed the VU reunion last year. The fourth edition of Trouser Press came out in 1992, and still has favorable reviews, up to "Fakebook" I think... I don't think it includes "May I..." tho it may have an EP or something. This is all based on memory... From what I've heard, the fifth edition will be a long time, or maybe never, coming, and someone said that Robbins was thinking of splitting it into two volumes... too bad if a new one doesn't come out, cause it's such a wonderful reference... And reading the equipment troubles documented last issue, I remembered when ylt played milwaukee in December, and one of the moniters had a quiet garbage signal in it that Ira noticed during a slow tune. He prefaced his fix-it request with "We're about to play so loud that it won't matter, but..." This was the same show where they played a wonderful "Did I Tell You", and when Ira asked for requests for the next song, a guy in the front row yells "Did I Tell You!". Ira looked kinda stunned: "We just *played* that! What did you *think* we were playing? What song did you think 'Did I Tell You' was?" Well, I've rambled far too much. That's what comes of not sleeping. Anyone who knows any more tour dates (well... Madison is really what I'm looking for...), please post 'em! have a happy greg ps. just bought Tara Key's solo album a couple days ago, and while I haven't listened to it enuf yet so far I'm pretty impressed. I've already got some of it stuck in my head. Perhaps a more detailed review someday... thanks for the tip, Glenn!

from: jeremy <jsapn@aol.com> Tim - Just want to say that getting the YLT Digest is frequently the best thing about Mondays here. One note on the discography - The Ernest Noyes Brookings Vol. 3 compilation is called "Delicacy and Nourishment" - they are the same item. It's a good disc, with selections from Peter Stampfel and Michael Hurley as well as YLT. Jeremy
from att!library!wer@nova.unix.portal.com It has come to my attention that Georgia was not flattered when she saw the photographs in the YLT article in Option. Of course no one looks good when pictured from that looking-upward angle.

from: Kurt Stephan <kstephan@well.sf.ca.us> My brush with YLT is offered with some shame because I've NEVER SEEN THEM LIVE (gasp). It's a mistake I hope to rectify next time they hit S.F. Anyway, after becoming a raving YLT fanatic because of "May I Sing With Me" and "Fakebook," I got frustrated at not being able to find "New Wave Hot Dogs" and "President YLT." I wrote to Ira care of the address on the CD, telling him how much I like the group, complimenting his guitar playing, and asking about the old recordings. I was pleasantly surprised to get a letter back from Ira in about 10 days. He was almost embarrassed about my praise of is guitar playing--said it made his day and that it would inspire him to practice more. He answered all my questions (I STILL haven't found the old albums, but I heard Matador is reissuing them soon) and told me he had started out as a copyeditor/proofreader, and that the title "Mushroom Cloud of Hiss" actually came from a typo when he was proofing. Nice guy! I always meant to write back, but never got around to it. Oh, and what was really funny was that he wrote the letter on the back of a glossy press release photo of some long-forgotten rap group on London Records (!). So THAT'S what rock critics do with unwanted promo material! It's not much of a story, but it shows how cool Ira is. And they are by far the best rock band on the planet, by the way. Glad others are starting to notice them finally. Kurt Stephan

from: Patrick B Leek <coi0555@dcsc.dla.mil> The name of the CD is "True Fiction Pictures" subtitled "Music From The Films Of Hal Hartley." YLT songs are "Some Kinda Fatigue" and "Always Something." Patrick B. Leek
