Subj: Luna/Wake Ooloo, Tramps Section: Rock Music To: Emma DeKay, 70004,1064 11/20/94, 12:11 From: Wilson Smith, 76702,1416So like, the important things first: the consensus is that Dean *DEFINITELY* sports some kinda mousse/gel stuff, and that it AIN'T just poor personal hygiene... He wore black jeans and a black tee this time, but then I guess summer's over, time to put away the white and tan wardrobe...
Set list was 15 songs long, nicely printed from a computer, I'd a scored one cause we were RIGHT up front, but they were reserved for pretty girls who shyly and politely asked for them. One song toward the end of the list was scratched out from the very beginning, not sure which one. They did APPROXIMATELY the same stuff that they did when we saw em last summer, covers of Thank You For Sending Me an Angel (complete with the understated "oh" in place of David Byrne's "whoa uh OH!") and an unlisted "That's What You Always Say" that they tossed in toward the end between songs 13 and 14. They also did "Outdoor Miner," which was driving me nuts all the way through it (like, "what *IS* this???"), until after it was over when it finally dawned on me that it was a Wire tune... cool choice!
Fair number of slow tunes, but also just about all the rockers, no Rollercoaster, tho... I swear to Xrist, my idea of heaven is that ten- or fifteen-second break in "Slash Your Tires" where Stanley does the sorta-martial-drum-beat-thing, I could just loop that and listen over and over for the rest of my life...
Three separate encores, I think... no Indian Summer (I was kinda dreading it): "Justin doesn't let me do that any more..." [thank you, Justin!!]
Hmmm.. I'm forgetting Wake Ooloo -- they rocked!! They romped and stomped, I luv that stuff, I coulda just stuck my head in the amp for 40 minutes and gone home a happy man...
At any rate, nice show. Opening were Magnetic Fields, who were kinda sorta cool, but kinda sorta obnoxious... Cello instead of a bass... little too mellow...
It's so very lonely; you're light years from home.
