We were supposed to pick Chilton up at the airport. Someone else did. He was "missing" for several hours, during which we discovered that he had been picked up at the airport and was "relaxing" in his hotel
He refused to go onstage without being "chemically altered".
He played most of the show with his fly undone.
He was a complete and utter asshole.
Because of the Big Star reunion show, our station was "reorganized" by the organization that owns our license, much like KOMU in Seattle. Zoo records took our station for $6000 which we will never see, all because they "graciously offered" to record the show for their own personal and financial gain. They also "graciously offered" to pay for KCOU's expenses. Fat chance.
Despite all this, the Big Star reunion on April 25, 1993, was still one of the best shows I have ever seen in my short lifetime.
Who is Alex Chilton? BAH?

He had driven all night, and he was tired, but willing. and a little excited. I didn't expect him to offer a big thank you to KCOU for setting up the whole thing. hell, i didn't even expect him to show up. why would he travel hours to play a college town radio concert? but he did, and he was cool, and who cares if he was high. who wasn't? It was the best show i had ever seen. I don't settle for just anything, but Alex Chilton, in whatever form and whatever state of mind and whatever boxers, isn't just anything. karen brooks
