Ok... Start on ze same foot... [utterly exhausted und in dire need of beer infusion Mike].... Ok...still on same started foot... Joey Ramone Presents CBGB's Under Siege! The Spring Offensive! Tink there's something about dat round here...Incomplete and incomrehensible as usual...Ok... Back to dat foot... First band of ze offensive dat I caught, veritable shock troops of sound...DRUNKEN BOAT were killerly tight and pretty banging and happening for the first song, mebbe into the second...Then seemed to dissipate into quite the noise fest, similarly sounding, and alright to listen to, but not really knockout stuff...If they could've held onto the level of the early part of the set, they woulda been downright killer....
Next up wus [which wuz fergotten about in drunkin rambling] wuz CROWN THE GOOD One of Joey's fav New York Bands.... Who were technically adept to say the least, and some pretty good grungy straightahead RnR [dats Rock N Roll fer you servicemen....].....Once again, nothing terribly overwhelming, but they gave a good kick of it...The whole show dispensing with CB's killer PA, and flowing from a couple of squeezed onto ze stage Marshall stacks, [really, I mean what's a J Ramone show without Marshalls? Not taking place that's what]... Still fer CTG they weren't really served by ze Marshalls, extremely tinny... Then again, I did consider that a nice touch fer a second or two there..
Next up wuz ummm...a fashion show...Which wuz good opportunity to here Venus in Furs, and Flower Child [??]... And watch some funky looking girls bounce around ze stage in Susan Calamari's [?? gots me, I hadn't a clue either] Latest leather, und "flower" fashions.... Me guesses this wuz Joey's pop's [he wuz in attendance] favorite portion of ze show... Mighta been mine up to that point as well...
Wuz hitting stride nicely when Greatful Dead chicks... huh huh huh.. [Funky dresses there!] LUNACHICKS were introduced by the handsomest Man on ze face of The Earth [Yes kiddies, Dick Manitoba who'le be playing tonight] und Joey...
LUNACHICKS proceeded to tear it up in quite the big way.... They were really kicking... Great! I mean, totally offbeat und KILLER cover of Bad CO's ready for luv, and all dose LUNACHICKS HITS! cept mebbe baby sitters on acid... When zese volks rev it up, and are ready to roll, they pull out all the stops and really trash it up quite bigtime... Massive set....Me dug..[ug!]..
Next und not missing a step wuz DOMINICANS! They wuz a verifiable trip back to 77... A three piece Bashing out I think more covers then not [only pegged Safe European Home, Homocide, und New Rose [*the* COVER SONG of THE 90's! Yip YIp Yip!]....They were definately a blast...It's really not fair to call them a cover band, cause they were pretty dead on solid, and really transcended the typical cover experience..... Their wuz no transition from the songs they did of their own...Was really a tight solid and even set... Definately killer.....
Lastly und differently wuz Japan's finest [*really* talented crew] HIP NIPS [which compelled ze statement, or observation, "Hey you NIPS are really HIP!" huh huh huh [blowing his own horn Mike].... They were definately a nice nightcapl, singing all in english, [I think, word comprehension wuz fading fast at this point] They sounded right on... Clear solid, trashing fast, RnR [servicemen see above]... Personally think they should be named TOO HIP NIPS [und told lead guitarist so] I mean It is 1990... They definately cover quite a few bases very well [couldn't peg the derivitees but the wuz there, which isn't a real problem cause foriegn bands ussually bring something different to even straight lifts...].. Interesting und good band, without a doubt...
SOse even if ze crowd wuz mucho spaced [weren't a whole lot of volks there... Still managed to provide quite the rise, and wuz particularly satisfying.... KILLER!
Tonight is ze second phase of the offensive...Promises to be much more crowded with WILD KINGDOM, und Harley's CROMAGS reunion... BEWARE!!! Yip!
