Re: ESP

Phew!
   Lemme get this straight:
-------------------------
The Pretty Things (UK) -"LSD", Fontana 688 (b-side of "Come See Me", 4/66.

Available on:
Bam Caruso (UK) LP 32: Pretty Things- Cl.Rest.Blues (Best '65-'67).
Sire (US) LP ?: Pretty Things- Anthology (i forgit the title, i think Greg did
this coll.).
Norton (US) EP 504: Pretty Things- "Midnight to 6 Man".
---------------------------
The Rain (UK GROUP?) covered it, cut out the drug references, called it "ESP":
Version 1 (theremin during solo), A.P.I. 7" #?, mid '66.
Version 2 (harp during solo), London 7" #?, later '66.

Available on:
Moxie lp 03: V.A.- Boulders Volume 2 ("ESP" version 2).
----------------------------
The Beaver Patrol (Florida group) covered the RAIN record: "ESP", Columbia 7"
#?, 5/67.

Available on:
AIP/Bomp LP 10001: V.A.- Pebbles Volume 11.
Moxie LP 07: V.A.- Boulders Volume 4
Moxie EP 1007: V.A.- Punk Volume 1 (unverified)
----------------------------
Notes:
i'm guessing the Rain were a UK group for two reasons: one, doubtful that an
american group would hear a UK record by a non-selling (in U.S.) group so
quickly (i didn't start seeing imports in record stores till a bit after '66)
and two, issued on London records which wasn't in the habit of diluting their
labelname with american groups. Correct me if i'm wrong.
Also:
The B.P. heard the Rain single (not the P.T.'s) and covered it. They maybe
did/maybe didn't know it was an interpretation of "LSD". Either way, the climate
dictated the more *softened* lyrics in terms of possible airplay.
----------------------------
Like a jigsaw puzzle, really.
One piece from Jeff, then Tony, then Mike, then Apollo etc. etc., and voila.
Feel free to correct it/add to it.
