Re: Legend of Paul Revere
"Like, Long Hair" isn't exactly something that would appeal to garage-band
fans. As I'm sure some know on this list, long hair has nothing to do with
the current hair fashions (it wasn't an issue in pre-Beatlemania America),
but refers to the hipster's phrase for classical music. To me, it harkens
back to ragtime piano, and sounds so unlike the Paul Revere and the Raiders
that people got to know on "Where The Action Is."
There were a couple of followups to "Like, Long Hair," namely "Like,
Charleston" and "Like, Bluegrass," both on Gardena in 1961 and 1962,
respectively. Interestingly, Mark Lindsay seemed to be relegated to singing
on the b-sides ("Midnite Ride" was the flip of "Like, Charleston").
While I'm aware that the Gardena stuff has been reissued before, the
Sundazed compilation is supposed to be definitive, including a bunch of
unreleased stuff. If they'd only hurry up and put it out, I wouldn't _need_
to seek out earlier reissues.
