Thanks for the advice, but maybe I should have added the clause
"without having to spend a thousand bucks" to my request for help! 

As for distributing a Mac-friendly version of the database, if someone 
could supply a converted version I've probably got room for it on my
server. I'd have to do away with the text files currently there, but we 
made them available primarily for Mac users anyway.
