I don't know how this got started and what the Fugs had to do with Garage
Punk Unknowns but they were pretty punk (especially if you DON"T like
them, cuz I don't think they cared at the time). I never really thought of
them as hippy so much as just, well if you wanna give 'em a label I'd say
throw them in with label mates The Godz as "da-da" punk/rock/noise.
Anyway, I Tuli Kupferberg and crew were always more dirctly associated
with the beat scene then any "hippie" movement, and I think alot more
subversive. They certainly did a pretty good job of mocking society as
opposed to say Country Joe and the Fish. Remember, you have to put them
in context. That was 65, this is 99.
