Radio Rumpus Room playlist 10/30/98

Hey folks,

Among the big'n'little platters we debuted on this RRR Halloween show was
the multi-artist spooker "Halloween Hootenany," on Zombie A Go-Go; and the
long-in-coming and similarly themed Sci-Fi Western (Dave Wolfe of
Minneapolis' Vibro Champs) project "Big Monster Bash." In the "Money Well
Spent Department" we paid the first of many future visits to Rhino's
wonderful "Nuggets" 4-CD comp of '60s garage sounds. And while I didn't
know I was missing it till I heard it, I find I really *needed* the ominous
instro sounds of Finland's Hypnomen. Thanks, Pekka! As always, muchas
gracias to the artists and labels responsible for producing this noise, and
to the loyal listeners who inexplicably encourage us to air it every week!

(If you're in the neighborhood, Radio Rumpus Room broadcasts Fridays at
9-10:30 p.m. on KFAI Fresh Air Radio, FM 90.3 Minneapolis and 106.7 St.
Paul.)

SAVVY SHOW STOPPER
We broke out of the Halloween theme to give a nod and a wave to astronaut
John Glenn, who returned to space on Thursday. We couldn't muster an
emotional Scott Carpenter quote like "Godspeed, John Glenn" with the
dignity it was due, but when that Saturn booster started to shake the
launchpad I *did* hear Jean shout, "Stomp the loud pedal, Johnny!" It
seemed a totally appropriate time to air this single, which was recorded in
1962 to celebrate the first manned orbital mission.

Huey Long 100 -- The Ballad Of John Glenn (flip of Long's "Elvis Stole My
Baby" 7-inch; Rock It)

__________

our yakkin' during the phenomenally successful KFAI fall pledge drive:
