Wild Weekend Report no: 1

It was far from wild!!! Honestly.
I must say though attendance was pretty impressive and it was nice to
meet up with Bomper Tony Sanchez, Nick of The Breadmakers (a long time
correspondent), Yarek from Belgium (a long time drinking partner and
record expert) and best of all the young Roadrunners.
The Roadrunners were first up and without a doubt one of the best
bands I've ever, ever seen. To see young (19-21) year old guys up on the
stage playing frantic rave-up Euro-beat, dressed up in all the right
threads and loving every moment of it was invigourating. The girls loved
'em too. The singer had all the Jagger/May/Jones movements down to a
tee, and the guitar player was a pure loony. Tennage arrogant swagger
has never been better.
The Headcoats were next up, and although I've never liked them, on
this particular occassion they were dreadful. My pal Bill from 'Stand-
Out' Records was disgusted by their popularity -- I agree. (Sorry -
Evan). It really was a poor show and Childish performed a slew of boring
and non-party blues. Dullsville!!
In between sets though good old Paul, and Mark and Ray from the US
spun plenty of good garage and beat.
Last on were Mono Man and The Hentchmen. Yawn, boresville. I was so,
so disappointed. Mono Man wasn't drunk, his voice was perfect, he looked
about 100 -- nevertheless he was good -- but The Hentchmen as a backing
band were a wrong choice. They had no energy whatsoever and looked both
nervous -- in awe of Mono Man -- and bored. All my pals thought they
were shit. Sara said when she saw 'em six years ago in Spain they were
far better and Yarek shouted 'More Roadrunners'. I think Mono Man should
retire and leave it to the youngsters.
When you see a young, good looking and into it band playing next to
the vets the point is proved that Rock'n'Roll is for the young.
A pretty shit night really but seeing The Roadrunners was worth it.

Tonight The Breadmakers (uncredited appearance) and Freddy and gang. I
have high hopes. Until tomorrow.
