Oh dear. This used to be an easy question to answer. There used to be a
really good rockabilly mailing list that dealt with that genre from
50s-present. Due to various reasons, including too much traffic, especially
of the chatty variation, it splintered and begat 3 lists that deal with
rockabilly (and early rock and roll and r&b as well).
The original list can be subscribed to by going here:
http://www.teleport.com/~oricet/rockabilly/rabmail.htm
Be forewarned, the server has been malfunctioning for a few days, spewing
out multiple copies of posts. This list is the 'anything goes' rockabilly
list that tolerates chatter.
The original list spun off a list that was supposed to be devoted solely to
'rockin music' It has some incredibly knowledgeable subscribers, but the
posts tend to be pretty dry: discographies and the like, If you have a
question about a song, though, chances are someone on this list knows it.
Here's the unsubscribe info. I assume you can subscribe via the same route:
NOTE: "macjordomo" is *NOT* a misprint
"This message is coming to you from the Rockinrecords
Mailing List. To unsubscribe, send a message without a subject to:
macjordomo@loomisgroup.com with the words
unsubscribe Rockinrecords in the message body"
And finally, there's the second spinoff from the original list. It was
supposed to be "more on-topic, less clutter". It has many of the same
subscribers as the first list (and maybe even the second list). You can go
here to sign up for it: (You also might be able to sign up for the other 2
here as efforts were being made by some devoted individuals to keep the 3
lists somehow linked.)

Oh yeah, a hillbilly list recently formed. I think you can subscribe to it
by going to: http://www.onelist.com and looking for the hillbilly list
Sorry if this is confusing, but the whole process the rockabilly list went
through was rather confusing (and distressing). There are great people on
all of the lists. (And some subscribe to all of them.) Friendly and very
very knowledgeable about the music. (A fair number of musicians, including
Deke Dickerson and Kim Lenz, contribute to one or all of the lists when
they can.) If you have a rockabilly question, someone on these lists knows
the answer, someone else can provide more details than did the first
person, and a third person can tell you what Charlie Feathers would have
answered.
Unfortunately, I would say that none of the lists (not even in combination)
currently matches up to the blend of conversation and information that the
bomp list features. They are definitely worthwhile (you'll learn about
bands old and new), but perhaps not as much as they used to be. I'll let
you judge for yourself.
There are some other people from the rockabilly lists on this list too.
Hopefully they won't disagree with my summary of the lists. It is late and
I am tired!
And here you probably wanted/were expecting a nice one line answer....
Let me know if you have trouble subscribing to any of the lists....
