It's gotta be said - if Mojo hadn't quit The Sires first he would have been
asked to leave anyway...He and I met in the Earl of Longdale pub in
Portobello Road and I was going to tell him that he was out of the band,
but he just beat me to it. Although most definitely a good friend, we do
wish he'd have left earlier - because all that time that he was wanking
around, Ritchie had been wanting to be the drummer but didn't ask because
he thought Mojo was happy in the position. When Mojo joined the band it was
only meant to be a temporary position anyway, until we found a real
drummer. He actually begged to be allowed to stay in the group at one time!
The Psychotic Reaction - Mojo, you saw them quite a while ago (in
Nottingham?) but I've seen them more recently and thought they were pretty
good and very likely to be a great band before too long. They're in London
(at the Bull&Gate, Kentish Town) in a couple of weeks - awful venue I know,
but I think you'll be surprised at how much better they are now. Steve
Coleman saw them at the same time as me, so I wonder what he thinks...?
As for the Diaboliks, yeah, they're often "Diabolikal" - I have fond
memories of accidentally switching off their vocals at the St Moritz in
Wardour Street when I plugged my headphones into the wrong socket - but the
newest recordings that Babz insisted on playing to us a couple of weeks ago
aren't too bad at all.
