[bomp] Re: How Can You Mend A Broken Capstan?

i threw out what looked like a pretty mint VOA reel to reel that i picked up
on the street, i found out that there was some sort of mechanism that
wouldn't allow the 'play' function without a reel actually spooled through. i had
just tested out the buttons without a spool on there. fast forward and rewind
seemed to operate fine. play didn't. hence me tossing out what was probably a
pretty cool machine. oops. might be worth a test. >>>
Yes, I did thread up a reel of tape...and it did not work. My latest guess
is that the capstan belt is either off, broken, or just plain worn out. From
some research I did on the net, I've found that that's a common problem with
that model.
And Circus Maximus was a good group. (Why am I name-dropping in a thread
that has absolutely nothing to do with that? I dunno...why did *you* do it,
Jumpy? :> )
