[bomp] How Can You Mend A Broken Capstan?
A neighbor is moving, and he offered me his old Teac A-3440 reel to reel 4
track at no charge. Yipeee!
Well, except that it doesn't play. It fast-forwards and fast-backwards
decently, but when I hit play, it's no go.
After some examination I'm convinced it's a case of a stubborn
capstan...like, it has something personal against the pinch-roller and they refuse to work
together. I tried to lube them but apart from making them smell a little
nicer, it had no effect. I've also since found a copy of the manual on the net
but it had no troubleshooting section of any kind.
Anyone have any quick tips that don't require taking it to professionals for
repair?
Thanks.
