[bomp] just a reminder: "Riot on Sunset Strip" radio show, Sundays 10 a.m. L.A., 6 p.m. London, 1 p.m. New York




Hi friends, just a heads up, the "Riot on Sunset Strip" radio show can be heard live (only, no archive) at Luxuriamusic.com every Sunday at 10 a.m. California time, 6 p.m. in London, and 1 p.m. New York City (check your local time against these locations).  The show features bands that broke out of the L.A. area between 1964-1967, plus groups who came to L.A. and played the clubs and other venues (such as The Rolling Stones breaking in America via San Bernardino... and The Hollywood Palace... in 1964, Them's 18 night stand at Whisky a Go Go, etc.)  Below is last weeks set list (songs posted on the "Riot on Sunset Strip" MySpace site each week), for example. Eugene Church & the Fellows - "Pretty Girls Everywhere" (played the South Central venues, and also Red Velvet, Sunset Boulevard, 1960, when it was called The Summit and hosted KRLA Teen Night on Sundays.  Club later became Soul'd Out in 1969, then Club Lingere)
The Vibrations - "My Girl Sloopy" (played the South Central venues, and when it opened in '66, Maverick's Flat)
The Stone Poneys - "Orion" (played the Insomniac Cafe as early as '64, then broke at The Troubadour)
The Doors - "We Could Be So Good Together" (house band at The London Fog, then Whisky a Go Go, The Sea Witch, The Marina Palace in Long Beach (on a bill with The Byrds in early '67) and got reviewed by Village Voice and L.A. Times during their run at Gazzarri's right about that time.

The Mamas & The Papas - "Monday Monday" (played about 24 gigs total, including Hollywood Bowl)
Troy Walker - "Sinner Man" (live at The Crescendo, Sunset Strip, club later became The Trip)
Cher - "You'd Better Sit Down Kids" (broke w/ Sonny at The Purple Onion, Sunset Boulevard, with Pat & Lolly Vegas as backing band.  Headlined It's Boss on Sunset Strip during their recording prime in '66).
Peter Fonda - "Catch the Wind" (w/ Hugh Masakela on trumpet, and produced by Hugh for his Chisa record label.  Fonda played The Sea Witch, Sunset Strip around the time he was making movies like The Wild Angels and The Trip)
The Leaves - "Lemon Princess" (played Ciro's LeDisc, Hollywood Palladium (opening for The Byrds)... starting out in the San Fernando Valley at Cal State Northridge and then, The Yum Yum Tree, before the Ciro's/It's Boss gig took hold)
The Turtles - "The Last Thing I Remember (The First Thing I Knew)" (featuring new member previously in The Leaves, Jim Pons.  Previously unreleased, this Psych-as-all-hell version first came out in the '80s on an LP titled "Chanlon Road".  Turtles broke at The Crescendo-Tiger Tail in summer of '65, which became The Trip in October that  year)
