A DJ friend says it's always a good sign when the management asks you to turn it down. In other words, pump until they say stop.

at ear-bleed level? More often than not when I go to a DJ night or at a

good for either dancing or socializing. >>>

Most of the DJ nights I go to I'd say the volume is just about where it
should be....loud enough that I can have that enjoyment I mentioned yesterday of
hearing music at volumes higher than I could ever play them at home...but
without being ear-bleeding, and not distorted.
But that's for places where there's dancing...Certainly if it's a bar where
there is no dance area, and all you can do is sit/stand and socialize, then
the music shouldn't be too loud that you can't talk to the person next to you
without shouting. (I know at least one Brooklyn deejay who doesn't seem to get
that. :>)
