[bomp] dj rant

Remember that most DJ nights tend to be once a month. There are tons
of them, though.

Maybe where you live but not in my town :-)

IMO, a good DJ is one who knows how to mix it up, play a variety of
tempos and styles. Whether the songs are well-known or obsolete doesn't
matter much to me.

But for god's sake, what the hell are some of you thinking playing music
at ear-bleed level? More often than not when I go to a DJ night or at a
weekender, DJs are playing music so loud it's distorted. That's not good
for either dancing or socializing. Listen up, DJs: you don't have to
shove music down people's throats. If you're doing your job right, the
people that are to there to dance will dance. But if they aren't there to
dance, that doesn't mean you failed, either. Some people like to go to
these things to listen to good music and socialize - there are some people
who won't dance no matter what. Turning up the music loud ain't gonna
keep them there, either - chances are they'll just leave.

I don't understand why some DJs view their success in terms of how many
people they get on the dance floor. Getting people to dance is always a
plus, but ultimately, a good DJ is one who gets people to the venue and
and keeps them there all night, whether they dance or not. If you have a
crowded room at the end of the night and people don't want the music to
stop, you've done your job well. It doesn't really matter how many of
them got onto the dance floor in the end, it's about how many are still
there having a good time at the end of the night.

PS - whatever happened to playing a luv song every now and then to give
