[bomp] Re: "When the grooves of a lifetime start to feel like a rut..."

<<When I realized I could go one of two ways with my record collection, I decided to pursue the music side first....With cds I'm much more cut throat. half.com.. adios.>>

i am pretty much exactly the same, except for the last part. though (after 4 moves in 2 years), i am acutely aware of the pain-in-the-ass factor of owning and maintaining a large collection of ANYTHING, i have been around the get-rid-of-it-all-only-to-buy-it-back-again-in-two-or-three-years block to realize that i am always gonna have the beautiful stankin albatross of the Big Collection hangin around my metaphorical neck until my dead ass is exhaustedly dirt-napping.

still though, and i realize this is exactly the wrong place to voice such opinions ( ;) ), i really could care less about vinyl. i prefer the tangibility and portability of CDs, without factoring in the whole "sounding thing." i don't consider myself a CD collector, a vinyl collector, or whatever...i collect MUSIC. i got into a big discsussion with a vinyl-collector at work, and so much of the talk seemed to hover around the whole "X is worth Y" thing, and...i just don't care about that stuff. if i want something bad enough, i'll pay collector prices for it, but i don't file away the purchase price in the trophy collection. i buy stuff to listen to it. pretty much everything in my collection gets listened to. i don't get the whole aesthetic of buying something to sell it again...he was a daaaaaaaaay trader, sunday driver yeah....

anyway, i know what you mean, ron, about getting rid of the dead collector wood, there's nothing worse than having to flip through boring "valuable" collector junk to get to the good stuff.......t-t-t-t-t-t-tedious
