Re: [bomp] Re: "When the grooves of a lifetime start to feel like a rut..."
When I realized I could go one of two ways with my record collection, I
decided to pursue the music side first. I took inventory of the
collection, and found there was stuff I'd never listened to in the 15+
years I'd been hauling them around. After five years on the radio up
here, I decided to look close at everything I hadn't played. I ended up
selling off a load of "rare classics" which I still don't think are that
good! (this was in 1985) Now I just buy what I want to hear. I have a
lot of stuff, but it's all good. My idea was to be a self contained
radio dj. I buy loads of stuff still, but not so much to have all the
cover variations, or correct "best" mastering . If it's cheap, then I
might be a bit more forgiving, but since there really isn't space for
anything else, I do have limits.
Every so often I go through the stacks and put stuff in the junk/thrift
store pile, or in the deep storage. The latter are subject to sale when
the dealers come around. With cds I'm much more cut throat. half.com..
adios.
I still have more records than a sane person should own, and the wife
has her own major collection. I'm not worried about running out of good
music. And when I shed this mortal coil, there is gonna be one hell of
an international garage sale here!
