[bomp] Ooh-whee, Baby!
Last night Frankie Ford came to the Greyhounds show at a private bar for old
volunteer firemen and ladies' auxiliaries in Poughkeepsie, NY. It had been
rumored he might be chauffered to the show by a Greyhounds fan who's hooked
up with the doo-wop and oldies revival happenings, but we really weren't
expecting him to show, cynics that we are. Frankie was in the general
vicinity to do a big revival show tonight in Carmel, NY, about an hour away.
So he actually comes to the show, and not only that, he led the band through
Sea Cruise, Roberta, and Rockin' Pneumonia, playing piano on my rinky dink
little Optimus (Radio Shack equivalent of a Casio or Yamaha -- actually
sounds OK on the piano setting, but the action is truly like a toy). His
voice is great -- everything was in the original keys. Signs autographs,
poses for pics, nice to the audience. And he's really a fun guy to have a
beer (or six) with, if you ever get the chance.
Unbelievable. Many pics were taken. I'll get them up as soon as they're
downloaded.
