I agree. They are not young men anymore and they should spend the rest of their days spreading the gospel of the Northwest. See comments below:
I was hoping to be the first to comment (as I would have been the first one home to a computer) but Nancy Neon has beaten me to it.
The Sonics sounded pretty damn good after a 35 year hiatus (longer than some of you have been alive!). They just inspire mass hysteria. It was pretty frantic up front with representatives of various tribes going screamin yellow bonkers for the band. I got banged on the chin by an errant head and clocked with an elbow on the jaw while stepping in front of a blind friend [those nuts would have just snapped his cane in 2]. Ah, well, my boots will never be the same. Those stage lights were pretty bright. I had to take refuge behind Moptop Mikes massive hair-dont! I had no real complaints. Gerry belted in a more than fine manner for a heart transplant recipient; impressive sounds from meek looking fellas.
The new bands were mostly good: Wildebeests, Hall Monitors [guest appearance from Eddie Angel], Satelliteers, Thanes. Note: I didnt see all the bands. Frankly, Im sure the Outta Place were as good as they ever were.
Saturday had sets from New Colony Six and Strawberry Alarm Clock. SAC started out good: 3 guitars, lots of percussion, but it quickly became what I aint into, although I often end DJ of mine sets with their pop psyche Incense & Peppermints and will continue to do so.
The Six have a few good songs ("I Confess," and their Come & Give Your Love To Me which is a staple of my DJ shifts) but I was never much of a fan. When it comes to the NC6, I think Ill stick to the MC5.
Sundays set from the Lyres was one of their best. They even got a much-demanded encore! Jeff Connolly looked quite suave in his 13th Floor Elevators tie. Were there some new songs in there?? How Do You Know was a great opener. I particularly liked when Jeff dropped the tambourine and a fan gave it back up to him. This yours? I imagine he asked.
Fans were totally diggin the Fleshtones newer songs in their fevered set (but where was the very appropriate 3 Fevers?). Peter Zaremba almost lost his pants to an adoring fan---hes married, girls. But as they dipped back to their earlier stuff, the schtick ---great schtickcame out. All the stunts: Keef & Ken playing each other guitars WHILE still playing their own, Bill & Peter standing up pounding on drums, human pyramiding, dashes into the crowd, etc.
Hoodoo Guru guru David Faulkner and Wendy Case, innocently watching, were recruited to play guitar and bass while the boys were, er, doing pushups in the audience. Funny how the crowd cheerfully passed those important-to-the-act chairs back up to the stagewell, they needed every inch down there.
Nice DJ work from Jeff Connolly, Switched-on Audrey (using my needles, flashlight & spacers) and Billy & Miriam of Norton Records.
I saw that VINDICATED, the Fleshtones tribute album our own Fuzzco thought up was available for sale but I missed it.
Hats off to organizer Jon Weiss. Next year: the Barracudas!

Now that Jon Weiss (a thousand thank yous) has coaxed the Sonics out of retirement and shown them that people love the music and the band, the band?might consider playing again. maybe a limited tour with stops at select spots where appreciative?audiences are guaranteed. What was also amazing was the diversity of the crowd - hardcore garage fans, punkers and some kinds who looked like they got lost on the way to the nearest Rave.???
