[bomp] Re: Ugly Beats in Spain & Rotterdam

The Ugly Beats went down very well in Rotterdam,
excellent.

Seeing Ronnie Splinter up on stage was cool.

Top bands of the weekend were The Staggers (Austria),
The Wildebeests (UK) and The Cheaters (Norway).

That's not to say that Muck & the Mires weren't great
too - looking forward to seeing them on Friday at
Dirty Water, with the Priscillas - and same goes for
Mark & the Spies (Holland) who fit in with Muck very
well.

Seeing Jacqueline Taieb was cool. Still looked good
(ie. recognisable from the cover of the record I've
got) and in good voice.

The Rising Storm were great, but they should've left
out the slow songs (fine at a club gig but not a
festival). The so-called Yardbirds I didn't bother
with for more than one song (with just the rhythm
guitarist and drummer they were certainly NOT the
Yardbirds).

Kim Fowley, of course, was as one would expect. He was
in the same hotel as myself, same floor - I met him
at the elevator. He asked me which bands in England
were on the way up and he might want to think about
working with. I didn't tell him a thing! I mean, I
shouldn't inflict that on any band! When the elevator
opened at the ground floor a woman was waiting for it.
He said to her, "Hey, baby, you waiting here for me?"
I walked out and pretended to not know him! Heh heh!
