When I was in NY a coupla weeks ago finding cool hats (despite Mr. Flipper's
response and MUCH thanks to all who gave me the JJ location (AWESOME!) and the
place next to McSorley's!) I stopped by my friend Gary's wine shop
Bottlerocket on 19th & 5th (ww.bottlerocketwine.com) Too keep this semi
Bomp-related, Gary used to work at Forbidden Planet and played in Kill Me &
the Toasters (ok, now I expect to get yelled at for the 2nd wave of Ska not
being Bomp).  Fully realizing the Bomp community is more of a beer and hard
liquor crowd, this place was awesome!  Granted I don't drink wine, but if you
do, or worse - need to buy a bottle for someone, it's a good place to start.
They've got islands in the middle of the shop with cows, chickens, and even
chinese take out containers on top.... on the islands are wines that would go
well with whatever kind of food you're eating that evening.  Each wine has a
Gary-written resume, and everyone there can point you in the right direction
for other options.  There's also beer recommendations at the islands (but they
can't sell beer), and I believe they also have booze available.   They have
also been hosting events like record release parties, so on the whole, if you
ever need a bottle o' wine... or a place to have a subdued party of sorts,
check it out!
