What about Devo's uniforms (the anti-uniform!), or the
way lots of other bands throughout the history of
rock'n'roll (not to mention other musical genres) have
worn matching clothes (e.g., the Rolling Stones, Blue
Caps, Leg Hounds, etc.)?
Seems pretty cool to me. You could say that it
doesn't work on any kind of larger scale, but then
there are things like biker gangs...maybe not the most
level-headed people in the world, but they sure do
LOOK cool!
