[bomp] Regents Philbin
The "Words/Worryin' Kind" 45 was on Penthouse in America and CBS in the
UK...The 'Fuzz Acid and Flowers' discography does have a Reprise single
(0430),
in 1965: "When I Die, Don't You Cry"/"She's Got Her Own Way Of Lovin'"...so
'FA&F' is presenting these two singles and some others as all being by the
same
Regents.
As you may know, Fuzz, Acid and Flowers ALWAYS needs to be double and triple
checked... it's a great source and they have a lot right, but they do explain
at the intro of their book that this is the best info they have so far (to
their credit).
That said, since the song is "Words" I'd just wonder how early this disc was,
as you know the Leaves recorded "Words" early (probably before the Monkees?)
and one has to question how far out of town Boyce and Hart were sending their
demos. A lot of L.A. bands (or bands in L.A., like the Astronauts) had
recorded Boyce and Hart songs that the Monkees picked up later, like, didn't the
Sons of Adam also record Boyce and Hart song early too? At least this is
something to consider...
I think it was Tommy Boyce who had a house band at the Sea Witch in 1965 that
featured Gerry McGhee (later of the Ventures, sp?) on guitar (and that's why
Gerry ends up on early Monkees recordings). So Boyce & Hart were definitely
interacting with bands on the Sunset Strip and getting their songs recorded by
Garage combos.
The Regents of LIVE AT THE A.M./P.M. and It's Boss house band gig fame, their
Capitol LP gets sold by some dealers as "Surf". And, they also supposedly
appeared on the Dating Game as that show's "house band" in the early days. Just
more random info.
