Here's the official announcement of the upcoming "Knights of Fuzz" Cavern
Club CDs. I'm looking for any folks who actually went to the mid-1980s LA
Cavern Club, for photos and stories, so please contact me!
Thanks! -- Tim

BOMP! & The Knights of Fuzz
partner for "Live at the Cavern Club" CD releases
TUCSON, AZ - Legendary Los Angeles indie label Bomp! Records have signed
garage rock maven Timothy Gassen and his Purple Cactus Media Productions
(PCMP) to produce two "Live at the Cavern Club" audio albums. The albums
will see release as the second disc in each of the two upcoming CD re-issues
of the Bomp! "Battle of the Garages" compilation series, due out in Spring
2007.
The U.S. Cavern Club was the mid-1980s Hollywood hotspot for the garage rock
revival - which continues today unabated. Bomp! recently uncovered more than
150 hours of vintage "live" recordings of bands that played The Cavern in
1985 and 1986, and Gassen will sift through the mountain of tapes and
restore up to 50 songs for release.
"Bomp! honcho Greg Shaw told me in 1986 that I would produce this album,"
Gassen says, "but I thought he meant 20 years ago!" Shaw passed away in
2004, and Gassen sees the re-issue of the seminal 1980s "Battle of the
Garages" albums with the unreleased "Live at the Cavern Club" tapes as an
important testament to Shaw's contribution to garage rock. "Greg was my
mentor and my inspiration to spend a life in garage music," Gassen adds.
"This is one way I can say 'thank you, Greg.'"
Gassen has been worked with Bomp! and other indie record labels for more
than 20 years, producing, writing and performing in the garage genre. His
new DVD, "The Knights of Fuzz: the garage & psychedelic music explosion 1980
to now" sees international release on September 12, 2006. The DVD contains a
new garage history documentary, 20 restored music videos - and the complete
300-page "Knights of Fuzz" book authored by Gassen as bonus DVD-ROM content.
"The 'Knights of Fuzz' name is synonymous with the best in modern garage and
psych rock," Gassen says. "And the fuzz is just beginning to buzz."
