[bomp] Re: Arthur Lee RIP

Oh wow, that sucks.
I'm grateful I got to see Arthur a few times in concert...I still remember
in the weeks just before the first time I ever saw a Love concert, and *really*
looking forward to it...I remember telling some friends I was even looking
more forward to that than the Rolling Stones concert I was going to a month or
so later (not a knock on the Stones, but I'd already been to several Stones
shows, but had never seen Arthur Lee so I knew that would be a totally new
experience). And part of that anticipation was because he had been in jail not
long before so I wondered if I'd *ever* get to see him. Sure enough, the
concert was excellent...even though Arthur said he had laryngitis, I thought he
sounded fine. I think I ended up seeing three or four more Love concerts over
the next few years, all of them very enjoyable.
I did talk with Arthur once....sort of. At one of the shows he happened to
walk by unexpectedly, so I said "Hey Arthur!" or something original like that
as he passed. He turned around for a very quick moment and grunted a
half-hearted "Howya doin'?" as he kept walking.
Anyway, this is obviously a sad loss to most of us, but at least it's one
that brings pleasant memories of great music and great times to mind...and every
time I saw Arthur/Love in concert was indeed a great time with great music.
