[bomp] the conduit syndrome

> Oasis is a cool band, just over-hyped in the music
press.

Oasis make lowest common denominator indie rock music.
But the worst thing about their popularity over here
is how they've spawned a thousand and one imitators.

CAN WE SAY, however, that some of these kids grew up and found cooler stuff
later, and are now part of what makes there be more with-it people around these
days...?

It's like, the Cramps were never my favorite band in a longshot (I dig 'em,
tho), but they turned a whole lot of people on to stuff, and now, like, there's
more of a marketplace that makes businesses like Something Weird able to
exist?

Some of these bands have followings who graduate from their original
inspiration source, still liking them at heart, but move on to absorbtion of more cool
stuff than they ever bargained for in the first place. Remembering the
actual '60s, I'm alright with cool stuff being extremely popular, and crap being on
the sidelines.
